
Formosan termites have been found at nine more locations in Riverside, a horticulture agent for Duval County told Jacksonville.com
The aggressive Formosan termites have been located by pest control companies over the last week, said Erin Harlow, commercial horticulture agent for the county’s extension of the Institute for Food and Agricultural Sciences.
A map of the locations shows a cluster of Riverside addresses west of Margaret Street and south of Park Street, blocks southwest of the Woman’s Club building at the Cummer Art Museum and Gardens. The potential demolition of that termite-ravaged building sparked the creation of the Jacksonville Formosan Termite Task Force, which held its first meeting Tuesday.
Since the news about the Woman’s Club building came in May, the Duval County Extension Office and local pest control companies have determined that the presence of Formosan termites is concentrated in Riverside, and that nests are evenly split between buildings and trees.
