MORE REASONS TO WALK AWAY
The Thanks but No Thanks article (October 2004) in PCT really made some strong arguments in favor of walking away from some accounts. At our company we refuse to perform service if doing so will compromise our high standards we set for ourselves. You did, however, fail to cite another very good reason to walk away from an account. That reason would be knowledge that an owner, property manager or occupant has already tried extensive treatments with over-the-counter products or even household items not labeled for use as pesticides. We refuse to come in and apply materials at a residence or business after it has been overtreated by a person who is not trained or licensed.
One example was a residence where roaches were present. The property managers used 12 over-the-counter "roach bombs" in this two-bedroom residence on three separate dates, about four to five days apart. When that didn’t work they then applied an over-the-counter exterior product inside the home. When our technician walked in the home and the floors were sticky, that was a clear sign to walk away (as soon as he could pry his feet from the floor). Of course they only called us after all these attempts failed. Their attempt to save money by not calling a professional in the first place really backfired, didn’t it?
We all have our horror stories about situations like this one. I just wanted to bring this to the attention of your readers that there is yet another reason why you should respectfully walk away from a potential client, or should I say future headache. Thank you for your wonderful publication.

HELPFUL HINT
The other day I was using a Centro bulb duster when the brass tip snapped off where it screws in to the duster. I found a quick and easy way to fix the problem and make the duster serviceable again. I found a snap on Torx wrench #T25 and with firm pressure I was able to remove the broken brass tube even though it was broken off flush with the Centro bulb duster. I hope others can use this information for fixing or repairing their equipment.

THANKS FOR THE THOUGHTS
In the past few months I have undergone treatment for cancer and although I am on the mend, I am still slow in some respects. I would like to express my appreciation to all those in the industry who have sent cards, flowers, goodies, e-mails and best wishes. I really appreciate knowing that there are many that took the time to contact me or my family. Thank you!

SALES INFO USEFUL
November PCT is a great issue! I really like all the sales info, especially about selling to women. We are commercially based and we see more and more women in decision-making roles for our services. Thanks!
