Bayer to Launch Maxforce Quantum Ant Bait
Bayer Environmental Science is already gearing up for the 2010 ant season with the launch of Maxforce Quantum, a new ant bait that remains effective for up to three months — from one quarterly service visit to the next, the company says. Maxforce Quantum’s long-lasting residual delivers high-performance results while maintaining effective, low-impact pest control, Bayer Environmental Science says. Maxforce Quantum’s broad spectrum control is effective against many ant species, including Argentine, odorous house, Pharaoh, ghost, crazy and black garden.

“A professional’s ability to deliver effective, long-lasting ant control largely depends upon the residual effectiveness of the management tools at his or her disposal,” says Gordon Morrison, Maxforce insecticides market manager. “Maxforce Quantum will remain attractive to ants for three months, which correlates perfectly with quarterly service intervals.”

Quantum’s extended residual is supported by its hydroscopic formula, which retains moisture long after traditional gel baits dry out, according to the manufacturer. In addition, in many outdoor environments, Quantum will actually absorb moisture.

Formulated with a low dose of imidacloprid, Quantum attracts ants with its Simply Irresistible bait matrix and features the exclusive Domino Effect, a delayed action kill whereby foraging ants bring the bait back to the mound and feed it to the queen(s) and larvae, ultimately eliminating entire colonies, the manufacturer reports.

Maxforce Quantum will be available from Bayer authorized distributors later this year. For more information on Maxforce Quantum Ant Bait, visit www.BackedbyBayer.com.

Bell Labs Introduces Newly Formulated Vitamin D3 Baits
Terad3 and Terad3Ag are new rodenticide introductions that address today’s focus on performance and the rapidly growing organic production market, respectively, according to Bell Laboratories. After years of extensive research, Bell Laboratories scientists have developed these Vitamin D3 baits, which kill anticoagulant-resistant rats and mice yet substantially reduce the risk of secondary poisoning. They also pose low toxicity to birds. Terad3Ag is the first and only rodenticide registered by the EPA for organic production. Terad3Ag can be used in all types of organic production, including food processing, warehousing and storage and animal production. It is labeled for use in and around agricultural buildings, such as swine, poultry, cattle and dairy facilities. Terad3 uses the same formulation as Terad3Ag, but has a broader label allowing it to also be used in residential, commercial, industrial and retail applications. However, Terad3 does not include the statement “for organic production.” Both Terad3 and Terad3Agg have a recognized stop-feed action, reducing the need for extensive and continued bait use. Rodents typically stop feeding after a day or two, which ultimately results in lower total bait consumption. Visit Bell Laboratories at booth #419.
TERAD3 and TERAD3Ag are available in both blox and pellets.

Free Arilon Samples at DuPont Booth #201
DuPont will be distributing free samples of its new DuPont Arilon insecticide at PestWorld (booth #201). Arilon offers high-performance insect control, versatility of application uses and an improved environmental profile, the manufacturer reports. DuPont is packaging the Arilon water-dispersible granules in biodegradable and compostable Terrene packs. These packets contain a premeasured amount of product to reduce handling labor and exposure, minimize waste and eliminate the need to triple-rinse prior to disposal. Arilon combines performance with versatility in one, easy-to-use formulation. Whether insect pest invasions require interior or exterior treatments, residential or commercial usage, or even crack and crevice applications in food-handling establishments, Arilon is non-repellent chemistry that is ideal across all of these use patterns, according to DuPont. The active ingredient is delivered to insect pests through ingestion or absorption where it then converts to a MetaActive form using the insect’s own enzymes, effectively differentiating between target insect pests and non-target organisms, like mammals.

Learn About Avitrol at Booth #905
Pest birds destroy crops, damage equipment, spread disease and contribute to negative public images for cities and parks plagued with out-of-control bird populations. Birds such as pigeons, blackbirds, crows, cowbirds, grackles, starlings and house sparrows, cause millions of dollars in damages to public and private property each year, making pest bird control not just a comfort but an economic necessity. Avitrol, an acute oral toxicant, offers an effective pest bird management solution by artificially inducing a bird’s natural behaviors to successfully frighten away problem flocks. Affected birds that consume Avitrol experience no pain. When a sub-lethal dose is consumed, birds will recover with no ill effects within hours of dosing. In lethal doses, the toxicant works quickly, humanely and effectively, the company says. Visit Avitrol at booth #905.
