FastOut CS Foam from Whitmire Micro-Gen, the first microencapsulated, non-repellent foam product on the market, is now registered for use in California, the company said. FastOut CS Foam is a fast-acting, ready-to-use foam for termites and 34 other pests, including drywood termites. The foam is an ideal treatment choice for voids in and around homes and commercial institutions, including food-handling areas, the company said. It fills hard-to-reach spaces and leaves a blanket of microcapsules for long-lasting control of pests.

Microencapsulation creates a non-repellent effect, reduces mammalian toxicity and extends the foam’s residual properties. The dry foam, with its 30-to-1 expansion ratio, means there is less risk of stains or damage to surfaces. The ready-to-use formulation means no equipment, no mixing and no spills, the company said. FastOut CS Foam is sold in a 20-ounce can, six cans per case.

BOR-RAM is registered for use in Texas and affirmed by the Texas Department of Agriculture as a primary pretreatment for subterranean termites (including Formosan) in new construction. A product of the Sostram Corporation, BOR-RAM is a glycol-borate termiticide, insecticide, fungicide. It received federal EPA registration in 2007.

Sostram now has secured state registrations and regulatory approvals in the key states requiring termite prevention during new construction. While state termite pretreatment regulations vary, Texas allows borate barrier pretreatments such as BOR-RAM to serve as a primary method to prevent structural attack by termites (when applied according to label requirements), the company said.

New InTice Smart Ant Gel now is available in display boxes containing six 42-gram syringes with plungers installed. InTice Smart Ant Gel is a new gel bait for the control of a wide range of pest ants. Many PCOs remember the old “OutSmart” product that was popular several years ago. That product was popular due to its great acceptance by ants and the fact that it did not become runny even in hot weather.

In investigating this product over the last several years, Rockwell Labs found that one of the keys to its success was the fact that not only did ants accept it quickly, but that ants were able to continue feeding on it, even as the bait dried, i.e., it didn’t tend to “skin over” in such a way that the ants could not feed. After several years and 200 test formulas, Rockwell has been able to replicate these desirable properties. New InTice Smart Ant Gel is thick and sweet, just like PCOs remember. The original “single tube in a box” package also is still available, the company said. (Rockwell Labs reports there is no relationship between it and the makers of OutSmart. The OutSmart product and trademark are not owned by Rockwell Labs.)

Sector Misting Concentrate is a new water-based insecticide from MGK. Sector is specially designed for residential mosquito control systems and barn misting systems for fly control. Sector achieves high-level performance by combining the active ingredient permethrin with the insecticide synergist piperonyl butoxide (PBO), the company said.

Sector’s formulation is built on the water-based polymeric surfactant system technology also found in the misting concentrate Riptide Waterbased Pyrethrin ULV. Sector is stable in solution and will not harm most common ornamental plants, the company said. Designed for use in misting systems, Sector is convenient to handle and mix, and provides a stable dilution in water — making it ideal for misting systems, the company says. Along with misting system use, Sector is labeled for application in livestock facilities, in and around commercial structures, and can be used indoors in non-food areas.

Ratimor Soft Bait is a new bait formulation for the American market from Unichem. Already registered in numerous EU countries, the product now is registered in the United States. The producer of the bait, Slovenian firm Unichem, is an established international company that carefully examines rodent behavior, the company said.

According to the manufacturer, Ratimor Soft Bait is a very palatable formulation and it achieves a 100 percent mortality rate in both mice and rats. The reason is the unique formulation, Unichem reports. Tests have shown that rodents prefer certain tastes to others and soft dishes to harder ones, the manufacturer reports. Soft baits maximize attractiveness by combining the bait with an attractant. Ratimor Soft Bait contains Bitrex.

The Leaf Defier Gutter Protection System can be used by pest management professionals as an add-on service offering. Leaf Defier consists of an open-cell polyurethane insert specially shaped and cut to fit snugly into most gutter profiles, preventing leaves and debris from plugging gutters. Leaves and debris slide off the surface and blow away, keeping gutters free of organic materials that attract carpenter ants and other pests. Leaf Defier is treated with a biocide, germicide and fungicide that inhibit the growth of mold, mildew, fungus, algae and moss. It verifies the servicing of all pest devices and provides an easy-to-use analysis of the collected information, the company said. Pest management professionals can see “hot” spots in plants on the floorplan or for urban areas on city maps.

It also enables a communication method to report sanitation and maintenance issues to appropriate personnel so corrective actions can be taken. For regulatory and QA compliance, U-Trap-It generates the necessary reports to ease administration. Pest management professionals can save an average of 25 percent compared to punch card usage, the company said.

Bell Laboratories has launched a line of Trapper wooden snap traps for pest management professionals: Trapper Professional Wood Rat Trap and Trapper Professional Wood Mouse Trap. This is the first time Bell has offered professional wood snap traps to the  industry. The traps are made of a single piece of solid wood and utilize an extended trigger to ensure effective captures. Holes in the trigger also let PCOs attach nesting material, such as cotton or dental floss, for situations where food is plentiful. The trigger also features a built-in cup to hold attractants, such as Bell’s Provoke Rat and Mouse Attractants, which entice rodents to the trap. Bell’s wooden snap traps are easy to set and fit close to the edge of a wall, the company said, which prevents rats and mice from bypassing traps as they travel along walls.

B&G Equipment has introduced a new portable aerosol machine dubbed P.A.S. The product has all the features found in more expensive machines plus a few more, the company said. B&G took its Versafoamer 4000 and re-engineered it to create the P.A.S. The product has an “air only” setting to flush pests out of hiding places for use in “green” programs. PCOs can use “liquid only” for crack and crevice treatments, or use “aerosol” for deep penetrating treatments in wall voids or other harborages. One unique feature is the ability to pressurize the system and then remove the tank and wand from the carrying case for spot treatments, the company said.
