Once activated, the florescent green “visual alert” signals the homeowner of present termite activity and converts the preventive program into an offensive program. The Termiscope unit offers three installation options: visual alert, concrete/slab and standard wood monitoring. The visual alert monitor, which is 10¼ inches in length, significantly increases the monitoring zone, the company says. Once termites infiltrate the monitor, the patented design helps transition termites into the visual alert. Once activated the  pest management professional can insert bait or perform a local treatment. Concrete installations only require a 1¼-inch hole, which eliminates heavy and expensive coring equipment. The result: faster installations and lower labor costs. Standard wood monitoring programs are also possible.

NovaGuard Technologies Inc. recently received EPA approval of a new label revision for Armor-Guard Wood Preservative/Insect Control. Armor-Guard consists of pure disodium octaborate tetrahydrate, a borate labeled for the control of wood-destroying organisms including termites, carpenter ants, wood boring beetles and decay fungi. The new label allows the use of Armor-Guard for pre-treatment to wood during construction for the control of subterranean termites. It may be applied as a dust, foam or spray for both pre-treats and remedial applications. Typically used as either a 10 or 15 percent solution, Armor-Guard provides an inexpensive method of protecting homes from subterranean and drywood termites.
