Small flies — red and dark-eyed fruit flies, phorid flies and drain flies — have emerged over the last 20 years to be a persistent pest in food service and processing areas, as well as other accounts with chronic moisture and organic build-up. And large filth flies — house flies and blow flies — have long been a chronic pest anywhere there is food, trash or other organic debris.
A multi-pronged approach is generally required for the best results, and fortunately, there is a unique and powerful new tool available.
EcoVia Fly Killer represents a whole new approach to solving filth-fly problems. A new research-based botanical insecticide from Rockwell Labs, it’s part of the EcoVia range, and is a 25(b)-exempt product.
Powered by botanical insecticides, it has uniquely fast-acting and strong repellency, with minimal label restrictions for use in food areas, drains and outdoor impervious surfaces such as dumpsters and pads.
Third-party research demonstrates that it quickly kills all life stages of small and large flies on contact and provides strong repellency to adult flies to repel them from laying eggs in attractive breeding areas. It also kills odor-causing bacteria. The natural plant oils provide a fresh herbal-lemon fragrance.
Featuring multiple application options, EcoVia Fly Killer can be applied to drains straight from the bottle. The thickened formula coats the sides of the drain. The included surfactant helps the product to penetrate the drain scum to quickly kill eggs and larvae and helps with clean-up.
EcoVia Fly Killer can also be diluted 50/50 with water and sprayed, foamed or mopped onto surfaces where organic build-up occurs, which attracts flies to feed and lay eggs. EcoVia Fly Killer will foam without any additives other than water when applied with a foamer like Rockwell’s new Power Foamer, or even a foaming trigger sprayer. For thicker, longer-lasting foam, add OutLAST Pro at 1 ounce-per-gallon to diluted EcoVia Fly Killer.
How does EcoVia Fly Killer fit in with other Rockwell solutions? BorActin Insecticide Powder remains the best option to treat cracks, crevices and “mystery” voids that may be damp and can collect organic debris, but that don’t have a lot of routine water flow.
Boric acid will provide very long residual in these areas to prevent them from becoming fly breeding sites. There is no issue applying EcoVia Fly Killer in the same area as BorActin as the two products won’t affect each other.
And what about InVade Bio Sanitation? InVade products are not pesticides. They represent the most effective way to clean areas with chronic moisture and organic debris, since they contain powerful microbes that actually digest organic debris.
They can be applied in the same areas or even together. Since EcoVia Fly Killer kills odor-causing bacteria, it can temporarily impede the action of InVade. However, once the botanical oils dissipate, the microbe spores in InVade will begin to produce colonies of friendly bacteria to digest organic debris, delivering a kill and clean one-two punch.
Lastly, Rockwell Labs’ EcoVia Fly Killer will not be negatively affected if the account is using disinfectants routinely.
