METAIRIE, La. – Jefferson Parish, La., recognized Jerry Matherne, a service professional with DA Exterminating the last 50 years, by proclaiming Feb. 3 “Jerry Matherne Day.”

Matherne, joined DA in 1970 as a 21-year-old fresh out of the Navy. After stints doing residential and commercial pest control, in 1974 he joined the newly formed DA Marine Fumigation (the sister company of DA Exterminating) to do in-transit vessel fumigation, fumigation of containerized cargo, etc. Throughout the years Matherne came to be “the face” of DA Marine Fumigation to those in the Louisiana/Gulf South industry.

“What can you say about a guy who has been with your company for over 50 years! To say that Jerry Matherne is a fixture at DA is an understatement. He has seen it all in his 50-plus years of dedicated service,” said DA Exterminating Vice President Chris Caire. “I can’t imagine the company without him!”

Matherne was recognized during a ceremony at a Jefferson Parish Council Meeting attended by DA President Jed D’Arensbourg.

Caire said DA is proud of Matherne’s tenure with the company and for Matherne being giving this proclamation. “That we have a 50-plus-year employee speaks well of the culture at DA. We are like a family here.”
