Effective Mosquito Control with Exceptional Durability

Scion^™ Insecticide with UVX^™ Technology was developed to provide effective long-term control of mosquitoes and other pests under harsh conditions and on the toughest surfaces. Gamma-cyhalothrin, the active ingredient in Scion™, utilizes the most active isomer of the cyhalothrin family, which means pest management professionals (PMPs) can gain premium performance with less active ingredient (use rates as low as .0075%-.03%).

Studies over the past few years have shown that using Scion^™ even at the mid-rate (.015%) effectively controls mosquitoes out to 60-75 days after treatment. Another study done on treated leaves, aged outdoors, showed the mid rate of Scion was effective for up to 60 days at killing mosquitoes that landed on them.

Scion’s^™ UVX^™ technology was no accident. The formulation was developed over several years and was created to answer three needs of pest management professionals. An FMC survey of the pest control industry found that PMPs wanted a product that could achieve the following:

1. A product that holds up under harsh conditions such as concrete, block, brick or stucco foundations, which are alkaline and can be destructive to certain active ingredients and formulations.
2. A product that holds up under high ultraviolet light.
3. A product that provides true residual control (up to 90 days) of the toughest pests such as scorpions, spiders and ticks.

With the needs of the customer defined, FMC chemists started the process of developing the proprietary UVX^™ formulation technology. Though FMC had obtained an initial formulation, it just wasn’t good enough. With two more years of research and development, UVX^™ was born. This technology is “the most complicated formulation FMC has developed to date,” said Robert Albright, FMC Principal Formulations Chemist. Over the past several years, the formulation has undergone many trials that indicate the formulation performs as described. Further, Scion^™ has been in the market for the past two years, and customers have seen firsthand the superior attributes of Scion^™.

One such test that was run at Purdue University applied Scion^™ Insecticide to Hardie^®-board siding and allowed it to age outdoors for 75 days. Mosquitoes were introduced to these aged surfaces for 30 minutes at varying time intervals and evaluated for mortality. Scion^™ produced excellent mortality at all time intervals. At 75 days after treatment, Scion^™ achieved 100% mortality within 30 minutes of exposure at both the mid and high rates of treatment.
