Golden Malrin and QuikStrike Fly Baits: Resistance-Free Fly Control
Zoëcon Professional Products offers two baits, Golden Malrin Fly Bait and QuikStrike Fly Bait, that can be used alternately in rotation to reduce the likelihood of resistance that can result from the use of a single bait, the firm says. Both of these Zoëcon fly baits can be used on the ground in scatter bait applications or in a bait station.
Golden Malrin Fly Bait is a sugar-based granule bait for use against nuisance house flies. Its two-phase action first draws flies in with the fly sex pheromone, muscamone, then the active ingredient methomyl starts killing flies immediately after they feed on the bait. Golden Malrin Fly Bait can be applied to the ground as a scatter bait at food establishments, restaurants, canneries, commissaries, bakeries, refuse Dumpsters, warehouses, and in meat and poultry processing plants. It also can be used in bait stations where flies are actively foraging. Golden Malrin Fly Bait is available in 1-, 5- or 40-pound sizes.
QuikStrike Fly Bait contains a fast-acting adulticide, dinotefuran, specifically developed to control nuisance house flies, including those resistant to insecticides that contain organophosphate, carbamate or pyrethrin. Because dinotefuran differs from the active ingredient in most generics and related products, there is no documented evidence of resistance, Central Life Sciences says. QuikStrike Fly Bait kills flies quickly and can be applied directly from the container as a scatter bait or placed into a bait station, such as the Starbar Fly Bait Station. It can be used daily where house flies are a problem including trash receptacles and Dumpsters, restaurants, canneries, supermarkets, bakeries, food and beverage processing plants, and kennels. QuikStrike Fly Bait is available in 1-, 5- or 40-pound sizes.
Help Eliminate Odors & Pests From Troublesome Floor Drains
Green Drain from Diversified Sales & Marketing is an inline floor drain trap seal used in the outlet connections of floor drain bodies or the inside of floor drain strainers in commercial facilities such as restaurant kitchens, bars and food-processing facilities to help seal the drain opening to prevent odors, sewer gases and insects (like drain flies and fruit flies) from entering up through the floor drain. The firm says Green Drain’s four flexible silicone sealing ribs ensure easy installation into openings that may have variations in size and the silicone rubber sealing flapper will open to allow drainage and close when there is no water flow. The Green Drain can be used in either new construction or as a retrofit. Green Drain is available in 2-, 3-, 3.5- and 4-inch sizes.
The Vectothor Sparrowhawk is designed for smaller offices, cafés, restaurants and shops where PMPs want to discreetly eliminate troublesome flies. It can be mounted on walls, tabletops or shelves. Its cylindrical design allows for 360 degrees of flying insect attraction. Temperature-optimized glueboards ensure fly entrapment, even in tropical temperatures, Ensystex says. A silicone paper coating means the board can be quickly and simply replaced. Each unit weighs 2 pounds, covers 160 square feet and is 10.5 by 5.5 inches. Ensystex also offers the Vectothor UV-A Light Meter, which allows operators to determine if their fly lights are emitting UV-A light (which is invisible to the human eye).
Nicknamed the “Sticky Little Fox,” the new Gilbert 215GT features 100 percent stainless steel construction, two superior 15w attractant lamps and holds up to three glueboards (including one new XL glueboard) providing 280 square inches of sticky trapping area. This compact and effective trap was designed by David Gilbert, son of the pioneer of the ILT (Insect Light Trap) industry.
David Gilbert has performed extensive research in the field, Gilbert Industries says. He has co-authored a new paper with physicist David Sliney and Terry Lyon titled, “Ultraviolet Assessments of Insect Light Traps.” It will appear in the June issue of the Journal of Occupational and Environmental Hygiene.
Among the paper’s conclusions: Insect light traps serve a very important health benefit and some insects respond best to wavelengths less than 350nm. The potential optical hazards are virtually non-existent.

NyGuard Effective in Extremely Dirty, Clean Environments
Controlling small flies in residential and commercial accounts can be challenging. Although most professionals understand the importance of proper sanitation, achieving it is not always possible. One important and effective tool is MGK’s NyGuard IGR, the firm says. In recent years, MGK has worked closely with professionals to demonstrate the effectiveness of NyGuard for controlling small flies with great success. MGK recommends adding 12 ml of NyGuard into 32 ounces of water and applying the product to areas they frequent. NyGuard also can be mixed with a bioenyzme and applied in drains and areas with organic build-up. The benefits of NyGuard include:
NyGuard is effective in extremely dirty environments. NyGuard binds to organic matter so it stays where you put it, while still inhibiting immature stages of insects from reaching adulthood.
NyGuard is effective in extremely clean environments. NyGuard binds to inorganic matter and is not easily removed by excessive cleaning. It is still biologically available for the adult and immature stages to pick up.
NyGuard is effective at extremely low concentrations, MGK says. This means a little goes a long way and you can get excellent results with little contact, the company adds.
TrueTech 2000 Power Cart with Nibor-D: Small Fly Solution
The TrueTech 2000 Power Cart compressed air sprayer is designed to provide the pest control industry with maximum flexibility, giving PMPs the choice of liquid, wet foam and dry foam in one sprayer. A dry foam solution of Nibor-D can be pumped as far down drains as needed to control drain fly populations. If necessary, the 2-gallon tank can be removed from the cart while still connected to the compressor using separate extension hoses to reach tricky or remote areas. Even if electricity is not available, the pump handle allows for manual compression.
Nibor-D is a versatile DOT borate compound formulated for use as a dust, liquid, foam or mopping solution. It is used as a crack, crevice, void, spot and drain treatment. It controls small flies, ants, cockroaches, flies and other insects.
Using the TrueTech 2000PC with a Nibor-D foaming solution enables Nibor-D to coat organic debris areas in which flies may breed and develop. Nibor-D then diffuses into the slime coating of treated drains (the area where the larvae [maggots] are feeding) and contaminates their food source, making the food material toxic to the larvae as they try to feed. This action kills them and stops the continuing life cycle that produces the adult populations. The treatment also applies to cracks and crevices in walls and tile grout where organic food particles may collect, as well as to garbage receptacles inside and outside.

Conventional fly traps, “bug zappers” and similar devices are only partially effective against fruit flies because this pest responds to different UVA intensity and chemical attractants than house flies, mosquitoes and similar insects. EcoVia IB Insect Bloks contain a blend of powerful botanical insecticide oils in an innovative, pleasantly scented block form, the company says. EcoVia IB emits insecticidal vapors that repel insects from an area and can kill insects in smaller enclosed spaces. The vapor release is enhanced when the Bloks slowly dissolve in water, such as when placed in beverage fountain drip trays or drains. The Bloks are ideal for repelling small flies such as fruit flies from beer taps, drains and other problem areas.
