McCall Service Provides Bed Bug Treatment to Jacksonville Family in Need

The company treated for bed bugs at the home of a family on a fixed income.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla – Imagine going to bed every night knowing you are going to be attacked by thousands of bed bugs and there is nothing you can do about it. It’s a nightmare to envision but that’s the exact situation that two Jacksonville woman have been living in for months.

When the Cooksey brothers of McCall Service received a call telling them about Billie Sterner, a Jacksonville local in need, they felt they had no choice but to step in. They saw this as an opportunity to lend a helping hand and provide some Christmas cheer.

Sterner lives at home with her sister and they have been dealing with a bed bug infestation for months. They live on a fixed income and are sometimes only able to eat one meal a day which made coming up with the money needed to deal with their bed bug situation almost impossible. David Cooksey, CFO of McCall Service, said, “Our parents raised us from a young age to always give back when you can. When we heard of Ms. Sterner’s predicament we knew we had to help. The people of Jacksonville have supported our family’s business since 1928. We will always be indebted to our loyal customers and the communities in which we serve. Living with bedbugs is a nightmare and the infestation grows very rapidly if left unchecked, I wouldn’t wish that misery on anyone. With the Christmas season being upon us it is an honor and a privilege to provide relief to Ms. Sterner and her sister of this horrible infestation.”

On Dec. 19, McCall Service spent roughly eight hours at the Sterner home to make sure that the bed bug treatment was a success. When Sterner was told that McCall Service would be providing the bed bug treatment, she sent a card saying “There are no words to express our appreciation. A simple ‘thank you’ just doesn’t sound enough. All of you are sacrificing your time, and work on our behalf. We had made well over 250 calls for help but McCall said yes and you will all be truly blessed. All of you have made our birthdays, Christmas and New Year’s wonderful! May god bless you.”

This is not the first time McCall Service has seen an opportunity to spread kindness. Earlier this year, Chief Operations Officer of McCall Service, John Cooksey, provided a 2010 Chevrolet Impala to a Lyft driver whose car was stolen.
