VICTOR HAMMEL RETIRES AS EHRLICH PRESIDENT;
EX-CINTAS EXECUTIVE NAMED AS SUCCESSOR
READING, PA. — Victor Hammel has retired as president of J.C. Ehrlich Co., and chief executive officer of Rentokil North America Pest Control and has been appointed company chairman. In this new, part-time role, he will serve as an adviser to the company’s incoming president and CEO, John Myers. Additionally, Hammel will represent Rentokil in various industry and government matters and will handle various assignments for Rentokil worldwide.
During his 38-year career with Ehrlich, Hammel has served in a variety of positions, starting as a technician in the company’s Pottsville, Pa., district office. He became Ehrlich president in 1991, assuming the role formerly held by his uncle, Arthur Hammel. Under his leadership, the company grew to be the largest privately owned pest control company in North America. Ehrlich merged with Rentokil in 2006 and has since grown to provide service in 32 states as well as Toronto, Canada.
On his career, Hammel said, “It is the highest business honor I could imagine to have been a part of J.C. Ehrlich, a company populated with absolutely outstanding and devoted coworkers in a wonderful industry. And then to have the additional privilege of being CEO of Rentokil North America Pest Control for these past three years with the associates of Presto-X, Watch All, Rentokil, Du-Right and coworkers from the 16 other acquisitions we made — well that is truly the icing on the cake.”
Over the years, Hammel has been active in the industry, currently serving as vice chairman of PPMA and co-founder and president of PestSure, a captive insurance company owned and operated by PCOs. He was also named PCT’s Professional of the Year for 2008.
Ehrlich’s incoming president, John Myers, brings extensive domestic and international business experience in marketing, sales and management, having most recently served as senior vice president of sales at Cintas, an industry-leading $3 billion business services provider based in Cincinnati, Ohio. During his 8-plus years with Cintas, Myers provided leadership in several key areas, including business strategy, operations and business development. Myers began his career with American National Can Company, serving in a series of sales, operations and marketing roles and was ultimately named director of marketing for Europe.
“Rentokil is very fortunate to have someone of John Myers’ caliber assume the company’s leadership,” said Hammel. “I have had the pleasure of working with John over the last several months and am extremely confident that he has the skills, integrity and vision to lead Rentokil to its next chapter in North America. He has my complete and enthusiastic support.”
Myers said he is equally enthusiastic about his new relationship with Rentokil. “I have worked with numerous service providers over my career,” he said, “and I am extremely impressed with the dedication that exists throughout Rentokil’s family of brands. I am fortunate to be assuming the reigns of a company that is healthy and has a strong management team. I look forward to building on this excellent foundation with the help of our dedicated coworkers. We are fortunate to be in an industry that provides such a valuable service to its customers, especially in these difficult economic times.”
NPMA OFFERS NEW TERMITE FORMS; ANNOUNCES QUALITYPRO GREEN MERGER
FAIRFAX, VA. — The National Pest Management Association (NPMA) announced that the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has approved the use of the new HUD-NPMA-99A and HUD-NPMA-99B forms. The use of the forms is authorized immediately and existing stocks of the previous forms, NPCA-99a and NPCA-99b, may be used until supplies are exhausted; however, some lenders may require the new forms immediately. The new forms expire Feb. 29, 2012.
The HUD-NPMA-99A, called the Subterranean Termite Protection Builder’s Guarantee, is completed by the builder and specifies whether the work was done by the pest control company or the builder (in the rare case of using extensive pressure treated lumber as termite prevention). The form clearly delineates the responsibilities of the builder and the builder must guarantee that any work done complies with the building code.

Team Too Termite & Pest Control Sponsors NASCAR
Nationwide Series Car From JD Motorsports
CORONA, Calif. — Team Too Termite & Pest Control and JD Motorsports sponsored the Number 01 NASCAR Nationwide Series car driven by Danny O’Quinn at Auto Club Speedway Stater Brothers 300, which took place in February.
Bryan Houtchens, vice president and chief operations officer, said, “The current economic markets are tough, and although we never thought it possible to work with a NASCAR team, JD Motorsports has helped us to look at a worthwhile marketing plan with their team. As JD Motorsports and Team Too Termite & Pest Control are both family-owned companies with a high level of desire for success, this opportunity fit perfectly. It is rewarding to know that we can partner with another family organization similar to ours that will help improve our brand awareness to consumers.”
William Houtchens, president of Team Too Termite & Pest Control, added, “Team Too Termite & Pest Control and our family of employees are extremely excited about this opportunity to work with JD Motorsports. We are just a ‘mom and pop company’ in our eyes, and they feel the same way, yet with both of our companies there is a commitment to success and an involvement by every family member to be the best at what they do.”
Jacob Houtchens, fleet operations manager for Team Too Termite & Pest Control, added, “JD Motorsports and their partnership with Chevrolet mirrors ours. It is great to know that people from different parts of the country can come together for an event like this and work towards a common goal.”
So how did the 01 car fare in this race? Unfortunately, engine problems put the car four laps back, resulting in a 32nd place finish, but as Bryan Houtchens said, “That is racing. I can not even begin to explain the great time we had. It was phenomenal.”
Team Too is a third-generation family owned and operated pest management firm. The corporate offices are located in Corona, Calif., with service centers throughout the country. Team Too recently was named as the first pest management company in the nation to hold both a QualityPro and QualityPro Green certification from the National Pest Management Association and the ECOWISE designation as a certified ECOWISE provider. In other association news, NPMA and the New England Pest Management Association (NEPMA) announced that NEPMA’s IPM Registry program will merge with NPMA’s QualityPro Green program. This partnership strengthens the pest management industry’s environmental stewardship designation, and in turn will increase consumer demand and confidence in the industry, NPMA says.
Both the QualityPro Green and IPM Registry programs have worked hard to offer a comprehensive IPM designation to their members interested in offering green services to their clientele. Through the QualityPro Green program, this partnership enables members to speak to experts, industry stakeholders and consumers with a unified voice and back up rhetoric with a cohesive and credible national program.
The transition from the IPM Registry to QualityPro Green will begin immediately and be completed by Jan. 1, 2010.
“In our effort to continually improve our program, we have partnered with the NPMA’s QualityPro Green initiative to again raise the bar of professionalism and environmental stewardship of each of the 65 enlisted companies across New England, and elevate our member companies above the competition,” said Peter Wonson Jr., president of NEPMA. “I look forward to an exciting partnership and encourage IPM Registry members to get started as soon as possible in earning the QualityPro Green designation.”

Vital to the sustainability culture that Housset has worked hard to cultivate at Environmental Science is the notion that partnering — in this case with academia — is critical to success.
“We cannot achieve our goals alone. That is why the research expertise of North Carolina State makes the university an ideal choice,” Housset said. “It is within our power to achieve great success for our company while affecting critical change that will benefit society as a whole. It is simply essential to protect the world in which we live and work. Together with the university, we will take great strides in that direction.”
Engaging in collaborations with results that go far beyond its campus borders is nothing new for NCSU. “It [partnering] is an important part of who we are,” Wynne said. “Here at NCSU we have a long history of such collaborations in the public and private sector.” Those collaborations have produced more than 70 start-up companies and a NCSU portfolio consisting of more than 600 patents. NCSU partnership activities also include 61 corporations and government agencies that employ more than 1,500 employees who work alongside NCSU researchers. The sustainability culture that Environmental Science shares with NCSU is reflected throughout the company internally and externally through various business practices that include the development of new products dedicated to reducing carbon in the Earth’s atmosphere by promoting plant health.

RESIDEX PARTNERS WITH ACHILLES FREEDOM TEAM
CRANFORD, N.J. — Residex has partnered with Achilles International’s Freedom Team of Wounded Veterans. Chris Donaghy, Residex president, chose Achilles based on his patriotism and love of country, as well as his respect for the U.S. armed forces and his passion for running.
The Achilles Freedom Team of Wounded Veterans was founded in 2004 for veterans disabled in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan; however, all wounded veterans are welcome. More than 360 vets have been introduced to marathon racing as part of their rehabilitation. Starting at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, the program now includes Balboa Naval Hospital, Brooke Army Medical Center and Camp Lejeune in North Carolina. Members set goals, train in handcrank wheelchairs or on foot, and compete as part of a team in road races and marathons around the country and internationally. Events planned for 2009 include marathons in Washington, D.C.; New York, Boston, and Florida. Achilles covers the expenses for family members of the veterans to travel with the team so that they may share in their athlete’s accomplishment. One such Freedom Team event is the Hope and Possibility 5-Mile Run/Walk, scheduled for June 29, 2009, at Central Park in New York City. The event is named in honor of Achilles Founding Board Chair, Trisha Meili, author of the best-selling memoir, “I Am the Central Park Jogger: A Story of Hope and Possibility.”
Residex hopes to donate a total of $10,000 to the Achilles Freedom Team. Toward that end, Residex recently donated $3,500 to furnish a handcrank wheelchair that will be stationed at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. Furthermore, a team of Residex volunteers will be present at the Hope and Possibility 5-Mile Run/Walk. All are welcome to join Residex volunteer efforts or to take part by running in the event.
