Transport Mikron Insecticide for Long-Lasting Termite Control A highly advanced, non-repellent liquid insecticide formulation from FMC Corporation, Transport Mikron insecticide, provides fast-acting, long-lasting control of termites, bed bugs, ants, crickets and more than 30 other pests, including pyrethroid-resistant pests. FMC reports Transport Mikron is extremely effective against all three genera of termites, Reticulitermes, Heterotermes and Coptotermes. With its improved knockdown speed, lasting residual and good resistance management properties, Transport Mikron often eliminates all termite activity within 30 days of application, the manufacturer says. In addition, the product works extremely well in large spray rigs, including those with in-line dosing systems. The solution stability of Mikron ensures that pest management professionals deliver the same concentration of active ingredient from the first application to the last, FMC says. This even dispersion also ensures the uniform distribution of material on every square inch of application surface. In addition, Transport Mikron is a clear formulation, which does not stain or leave a messy residue. |
BASF Receives Federal Registration for Termidor H·E High-Efficiency Termiticide Copack with Termidor HE Technology
BASF Pest Control Solutions on Feb. 1 announced it had received federal registration for its new termiticide, Termidor H·E High-Efficiency Termiticide Copack with Termidor HE Technology. BASF says Termidor HE Copack gives PMPs productivity gains with a formulation and application standard that can result in 50 percent less water usage and 33 percent less labor (for most label applications).
“Termidor HE Copack is truly an industry breakthrough that saves time, labor and requires less water, yet still delivers the unmatched protection of Termidor,” said Dan Carrothers, business manager for BASF Pest Control Solutions. “This unique formulation and application for treating for termites allows PMPs to make productivity gains which will afford them greater flexibility, efficiency and opportunities to increase profits within their own operations, and BASF is pleased to deliver this to our customers.”
Termidor HE Copack expands upon the Termidor SC formulation with the addition of a BASF proprietary molecule that temporarily “boosts” the transport of fipronil, the active ingredient in Termidor, into the soil and creates an enhanced protection zone around the structure being treated. Benefits can include applying 50 percent of the water, and thus half the finished solution of a typical Termidor PerimeterPlus application. It also requires 77 percent smaller trenches and allows for wider hole spacing so the job can be done in about half the time of traditional jobs.
The use of Termidor HE Copack can provide additional benefits to PMPs including less physical exertion and savings on long-term fixed costs of drill bits, rods and fuel, the manufacturer says. Termidor HE Copack will receive state registrations in 2012, and will be on sale this May.

Termite Seeker TS-3 Finds Live Termites New from Pest Barrier is a termite detector that finds live termites where they hide. This handheld battery-powered device is easy to use and accurate, the firm reports. Using infrared technology to detect minute amounts of unique termite CO2, the Termite Seeker TS-3 can detect the presence of live termites in wall voids, cracks and crevices, galleries and anywhere else where their off-gasses are present. According to Pest Barrier, the Termite Seeker TS-3 features a sensitivity indicator that shows three levels of sensitivity that enable the user to isolate small and large colonies, audio and visual alerts that indicate live termites, 110v and car chargers, a mute button, and a 5-inch brass needle probe for small and hard-to-reach areas. The Termite Seeker unit weighs 14.9 ounces, is 7.5 inches long and comes with its own, molded carrying case. The battery will last all day. The new Termite Seeker TS-3 is perfect for annual inspections, says Pest Barrier. Pest Barrier is a division of Bird Barrier America. |
U.S. Capitol Protected with Sentricon Termite Colony Elimination System
The U.S. Capitol building, home to the government’s House of Representatives and Senate, is now being protected from termites with the Sentricon Termite Colony Elimination System with Always Active technology.
Since 1793, the Capitol has stood as a symbol of American government and politics. During its two centuries, it has been burnt, rebuilt, expanded and restored. The historic domed building also has had to stand up to termite infestations.
Recent subterranean termite activity dates back to 2002, when termites were swarming inside the building. It was feared that the infestation was severe, so scientists from the Agricultural Research Service were called in to investigate the species of termite. It was discovered to be Reticulitermes virginicus, a native subterranean species. Liquid chemical treatments were applied to the soil and termite-damaged wood baseboards were replaced — but to no avail, Dow AgroSciences reports.
In August 2011, the Sentricon System with Always Active technology was installed. Always Active technology makes Recruit HD termite bait immediately available to termites in all stations. Requiring nearly a decade of research to develop, this highly durable and highly dense bait is able to stand up to harsh in-ground conditions for multiple years and has been proven preferable to termites over wood, the manufacturer says.
The U.S. Capitol building joins other historic sites being protected by the Sentricon System, including the White House, the Statue of Liberty, Independence Hall in Philadelphia, Ellis Island, My Old Kentucky Home and ‘Iolani Palace in Honolulu.
The Sentricon System is the only termite product to be awarded the Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Award by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Bora-Care Surpasses the “One Million Homes Treated” Mark
Nisus Corp.’s Bora-Care surpassed the “One Million Homes Treated” mark last year, and the trend towards builders using this treatment in new construction continues to grow, the firm reports.
According to Nisus Corp., the primary drivers for builders are cost, time savings and green points. “Builders have always been extremely cost conscious,” says Lee Barrett, vice president of Business Development for the company. “To switch to a new product from what they have been using, builders will tell you it has to perform as well or better and cost the same or less.”
The Bora-Care treatments are economical because they can be made in one trip and performed any time during the dried-in phase of construction, Nisus says. This gives the pest management professional and the builder a significant amount of flexibility in scheduling the treatment. “Usually my builders will call me and tell me when insulation is scheduled to be installed, so I plan our schedule to have all homes completed before that,” says Travis Brummit, president of Ecological Pest Control in Knoxville, Tenn. “It’s a system that really streamlines my operation.”
Bora-Care Commercial, the same Bora-Care product with different label instructions for commercial structures, was recently launched, giving PMPs the option to use Bora-Care on steel, concrete and commercial structures. As a result, contracting companies enjoy the same benefits as residential builders.

MasterLine I MaxxPro and I MaxxPro 2F Now Registered for Exterior Perimeter Termite Treatments
MasterLine I MaxxPro and I MaxxPro 2F products from Unviar PP&S are now registered for exterior perimeter termite treatments. Pest management professionals will have greater efficiency and flexibility in their applications while still receiving the long-lasting protection of structures and providing superior control to their customers, Univar PP&S says.
I MaxxPro comes in two formulations (wettable powder or liquid) and is packaged with the professional in mind. Both are non-repellent termiticide/insecticides that provide a proven barrier or zone around structures. The unique chemistry binds to the soil and does not easily move. Because the products are non-repellent, termites cannot detect them and readily move through the treated areas — substantially reducing or eliminating entire colonies.
