Industry Mourns the Loss of Jeff Singley
Atlanta — Jeff Singley, president of Arrow Exterminators, died in Winter Park, Colo., on March 23, at age 46.
Singley started his career with Arrow in 1991 as a salesman in Macon, Ga., focused on growing the business in the Macon and Savannah markets. He was quickly promoted to branch manager and then region vice president for all of South Georgia. He helped grow the South Georgia area to more than $1 million in revenue in two years. That same area now generates $14 million in business for Arrow.
Singley’s leadership, along with others, helped to grow the company from nine locations and $10 million in revenue in 1991 to 70 offices operating in nine states and generating $110 million in revenue today. The company said he was instrumental in growing the company through internal growth and strategic acquisitions.
Arrow CEO Emily Thomas said Singley was good at finding, training, recognizing, rewarding and keeping only the best people, a characteristic that served him well.
During the course of his career, he won all the awards the company bestows, many of them on multiple occasions, including the Starkey Thomas Manager of the Year Award, the John Millican Impact Player of the Year Award, the Gerald Ellerbee Salesman of the Year Award, and various Golden Arrow and Beyond the Call awards.
In 2009, as Arrow’s executive vice president, Singley was honored by Syngenta Professional Products and PCT magazine as one of its Crown Leadership Award winners. This award spotlights individuals who have made significant contributions to the growth and development of the structural pest control industry, with characteristics such as strong leadership and integrity.
PCT’s Parent Company Launches Consumer Garden Lifestyle Magazine Cleveland, Ohio — GIE Media’s Horticultural Group has launched its first-ever consumer magazine, A Garden Life. GIE Media is the parent company of PCT magazine. The innovative new media publication will be delivered to consumers as a free app for tablet platforms. The premiere issue is available for download now on iTunes/Apple Store or for the Android. Each issue of A Garden Life will explore and celebrate the concept of “life as a garden.” GIE Media Chairman Richard Foster described the magazine’s mission: “To create a community of consumers with shared values and interests in lifestyle subject areas such as healthy living, that includes growing and preparing clean food, contributing to community, exploring travel and adventure, art and literature, as well as having a passion for diverse aspects of nature and gardening.” GIE will publish six issues of A Garden Life in 2012 (March, May, June, July/August, September/October, November/December) exclusively via iTunes, the Android market and the web. The model for A Garden Life (AGL) breaks new ground for B2B media companies by creating a free consumer magazine designed to generate consumer sales for its business magazine readers. Prior to launching AGL, GIE Media reached out to its readers in the garden center retail market to promote the free app to their homeowner consumer customers. Hundreds of retailers across North America responded and will benefit from a built-in geocoding function that will point AGL readers to their local garden centers to source products they find in the publication. A Garden Life will also utilize the latest social media tools to stimulate active reader engagement with its editors and contributors, as well as with one another, be it across town or around the world. “Tablet mobile technology — and the social media it facilitates – can stimulate sharing of ideas through direct one-to-one connections by e-mail and text messaging, and simple tools for sharing imagery, audio and video,” said Foster. A Garden Life has a companion website that will offer the magazine app content to consumers who do not yet use tablet technology. The website will include deep databases of horticultural products such as perennials, annuals, succulents, grasses, trees, ornamentals and lawn and garden hard-goods items. GIE also will offer consumer readers a regular electronic newsletter of garden center product insights at no charge. |
An active member of many local and state industry associations, Singley also served on the WDO committee of the National Pest Management Association. Singley was named chief operating officer in June 2010 and was appointed president of the company this March.
