Environmental Science, a division of Bayer CropScience LP, announced the availability of a new video designed to raise awareness of the public health threat posed by mosquitoes in the United States.
The video shows the face of mosquito-borne disease, featuring stories of individuals who have contracted West Nile virus and Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE). The video also encourages viewers to support their community’s mosquito control program.
Pest management professionals and those working in mosquito abatement districts can download a copy of the video by visiting www.backedbybayer.com/vector-control/resource-library and are encouraged to share it with their community by:
- Posting the video on their district’s website
- E-mailing a link to constituents/interested parties
- Showing the video during educational programs
- Incorporating the video into any other communications vehicles, such as e-newsletters and social media channels
“We developed this video with the help of mosquito abatement district directors and their team members to serve as a tool to illustrate the health threat posed by mosquitoes and the importance of publicly-funded mosquito control,” said Gordon Morrison, business manager for Vector Control and Farm Hygiene for Bayer. “Raising public awareness is vital to the continued support of programs that protect the areas where we live, work and play from mosquitoes and the diseases they carry.”
Coastal Mosquito Control Prepares For Busy 2014 Mosquito Season
www.coastalmosquito.com
With the large amount of precipitation that fell across the United States this winter, experts are predicting an above-average mosquito season, Coastal Mosquito says. And for more than 12 years, Coastal Mosquito Control has been producing the CoastalMister Insect Misting System for pest management companies across the country.
Homeowners and their families are spending more time outdoors. And as they invest more in their outdoor living spaces with swimming pools and outdoor kitchens, they don’t want to be bothered by mosquitoes, Coastal Mosquito Control says.
“Consumers are very pleased with the systems. Their backyards have become the largest ‘room’ of the house,” said Randy Elkins, president of Coastal Mosquito Control in Houston. “And if you’re going to have a beautiful outdoor living space, you want to be able to enjoy it without mosquitoes annoying you.”
Coastal Mosquito Control says its CoastalMister Insect Misting System is the ultimate permanent solution for outdoor pest control. The fully automated system is comprised of a digital controller, pump, reservoir and tubing that connects a series of specially engineered misting nozzles. The system mists a botanical pyrethrum solution three times a day for 30 seconds, creating a “zone of protection” around customers’ yards, pools, patios and other outdoor areas.
Control Solutions Introduces Stryker

Control Solutions of Pasadena, Texas, introduced Stryker into its diverse line of vector control products. Stryker is a multi-purpose concentrate insecticide that contains 6 percent pyrethrins and 60 percent piperonyl butoxide for a fast knockdown and efficient control of insect pests, the company said. Stryker can be mixed with other insecticides or insect growth regulators to enhance its effectiveness.
MistAway Systems Offers iMistAway

MistAway Systems, a leading manufacturer of mosquito misting systems, introduced iMistAway, a technology which wirelessly connects its misting control units to the Internet. iMistAway allows MistAway’s dealers to monitor their customers’ misting systems through a web browser or smartphone, enabling activities like auditing the volume of insecticide remaining in the unit and checking for error conditions like a cut line or tripped GFI — without the cost of a service trip. The solution also includes an app which a dealer can load onto its customer’s smartphone. The app can be customized with the dealer’s name and logo and will allow the customer to see their system’s status or use their smartphone to trigger or stop a mist. The app will also enable the customer to easily contact his MistAway dealer or Refer a Friend.
With iMistAway, MistAway’s dealers will be able to reduce operating costs while providing a superior level of service to their customers. The solution may be retrofitted to all MistAway systems sold since 2007, and is available exclusively to MistAway’s dealers.

MGK: The Hype Behind Hyperion
www.mgk.com
Hyperion is the next generation of mosquito control technology for residential misting application, MGK says. Engineered for use in misting systems, Hyperion utilizes a proprietary MGK formulation that allows stable dilution in water and is effective at low mix rates, according to MGK.
Hyperion uses the active ingredient sumithrin, which has been widely used to combat mosquito virus outbreaks following Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita, as well as the West Nile outbreak in 2012, MGK reports. Having the next generation of misting technology that is proven to deliver residual activity for up to three days adds to every mosquito control professional’s arsenal of mosquito control solutions, MGK says.
Hyperion can be applied outdoors with backpack sprayers, blowers and hand-held sprayers; in and around horse barns; and outdoors in residential misting systems, MGK reports. Hyperion is developed to be effective against mosquitoes, stable flies, fire brats, ants, flying moths and other nuisance insects.

Pyranha says Odaway is a highly effective, water-based, broad spectrum odor eliminator. It is a versatile biodegradable, non-toxic formulation that provides complete neutralization of unpleasant odors, including skunk odor, by modifying them at the source, without heavy perfuming.
The original SprayMaster Misting System was invented by Pyranha in 1972. It is a solution for controlling harmful flying, biting and nuisance insects, especially mosquitoes.
