Bayer Environmental Science
Bayer Environmental Science’s Drione, a desiccant dust combined with synergized pyrethrins, is now available and in good supply. A worldwide shortage of pyrethrum, a key ingredient in Drione, has limited availability in recent years. Bayer, however, has been able to secure enough material to meet demand for the remainder of 2011, the company reports.
Approved for use in residences, commercial food-handling establishments, food plants and granaries, Drione provides fast control, excellent flushing action and remains effective for up to six months, Bayer reports. Drione features synergized natural pyrethrins plus amorphous silica gel that erodes the insect cuticle, causing the pest to die from dehydration.
Drione is effective, fast-acting and has a broad label that includes mattress applications for control of bed bugs, as it is non-staining and relatively odorless, Bayer reports.

J.T. Eaton
J.T. Eaton & Co. has infused a new feature into two of its most popular multiple-catch mouse traps, the Repeater and the Little Pete: removable ramps.
As the name implies, Speedy Clean Repeaters and Speedy Clean Little Petes allow pest management professionals to simply lift out a captured rodent, dispose of the rodent properly, clean the ramp and place the ramp back into the station quickly and easily. If a ramp is damaged or heavily soiled, pest management professionals simply replace it in the station — there is no need to replace the entire unit.
No tools are necessary to remove or install the ramps. The Speedy Clean design makes the stations last longer, J.T. Eaton reports. Another benefit is that PMPs need to carry fewer replacement stations on their truck — extra ramps can extend the life of each rodent station, according to J.T. Eaton.

Bird-X
The BirdXPeller Predator Drone is a new, patented technology to keep pest bird intruders away from golf courses, agricultural property, vineyards and even challenging environments such as airports. The BirdXPeller Predator Drone is a remote-controlled model aircraft that swoops down to scare and chase away pest birds, emitting natural sounds of hawk cries and bird distress calls as it buzzes the target pests in threatening maneuvers.
Bird-X reports the BirdXPeller Predator Drone has been proven highly effective in scaring birds off — leaving them reluctant to return to areas where they have been subjected to such terrifying attacks. Bird-X says that studies have shown that the best way to control birds humanely is to leverage their instinctive fears and threat-avoidance for behavior modification.
The Predator Drone uses the expertise of Dan Metz, a model aircraft flyer, as well as Dr. Phil "Dr. Goose" Whitford, a biologist with a lifelong interest in Canada geese, to create an aerial attack that combines the recorded alarm and alert calls from wild Canada geese and other specific species such as seagulls, blackbirds and starlings.

Liphatech
Liphatech announced the availability of its FirstStrike soft bait to pest management professionals throughout Canada.
Each 10-gram FirstStrike pouch contains the Liphatech-exclusive active ingredient, difethialone, which works in a single feeding. The product is designed for flexible dosing — use the exact amount of FirstStrike necessary — more for heavy infestations, less for maintenance. It’s also ideal for lingering rodents, because the aroma from each pouch is designed to enhance attraction, even when competing food is available, Liphatech says. FirstStrike does not contain wax, so palatability is maximized. Additionally, taste or efficacy is not affected by extreme heat or cold, and the pouch reduces the chance of crumbling or being translocated. A bittering agent is included to reduce the chances of accidental consumption.
The FirstStrike pouch can be used like traditional block bait — it can be quickly and securely fixed on the vertical or horizontal bars of a bait station yet retain aroma and high palatability. FirstStrike is available in a 7- or 3.5-killogram pail.

LG Life Sciences
New York has approved the amended Fenvastar Plus label to allow aerosol void treatments for bed bugs as well as fogging applications in commercial areas. PMPs can use the Patriot, Actisol, Micro-Injector or the B&G PAS as part of their bed bug treatment regimen. This application equipment allows users to penetrate deep into voids, drop ceilings and conduits to kill bed bugs and their eggs with Fenvastar Plus diluted in oil-based pyrethrins or a standard ULV diluent oil plus Gentrol.
Oil-based aerosol droplets can provide deep penetration. The oil dilution also provides a high level of safety around electrical outlets and switchboxes, LG reports. So, LG amended the label for Fenvastar Plus to allow the deep harborage treatment for bed bugs, which also would include inaccessible spaces in structures and equipment. Additionally, the newly approved New York label allows for ULV (fogging) of warehouses, storage rooms, food production plants or other commercial sites for a wide variety of target pests including roaches, stored product pests and flies.
