Bayer Introduces Suspend PolyZone at Florida Event
Coral Gables, Fla. — About 100 pest professionals were guests of Environmental Science, a division of Bayer CropScience, in Coral Gables, Fla., March 22-23, as the company formally launched its Suspend PolyZone product to the pest management industry.

The event, held at The Biltmore Hotel, featured a variety of industry speakers, as well as technical presentations about Suspend PolyZone, which features a slow-release delivery system for deltamethrin that withstands aggressive surfaces and adverse weather conditions for at least 90 days.
Chris Pienaar, director of professional pest management, talked about Bayer’s history of scientific innovation and how Suspend PolyZone is one of those innovations. “I believe the introduction of Suspend PolyZone will transform this industry,” he said.
Suspend PolyZone has broad labeling. It is labeled for indoor pests and sites (more than 40 pests); perimeter pests and sites; bed bugs (including mattresses and furniture); soil, turf and ground covers adjacent to structures; and wood-destroying insects (as a spray, foam or brush application). The product can be re-applied at 21-day intervals and has a broad rate range (0.01 to 0.06 percent). It is not labeled for subterranean termites, general surface applications (indoors), and broadcast application to carpet for cat fleas (spot and crack and crevice applications are allowed).

- Camille Gipson, marketing communications manager, Environmental Science, a division of Bayer CropScience, reviewed the company’s digital presence and use of Facebook, Twitter, etc.
- NPMA’s Gene Harrington talked about current regulatory issues.
- Dr. Austin Frishman discussed how the industry has changed throughout the years.
One of the highlights of the event was a “roasting” of Dr. Austin Frishman on March 22. Roasters included Bayer’s Gordon Morrison, Purdue University’s Gary Bennett, University of Kentucky’s Mike Potter, Texas A&M’s Roger Gold and University of California-Riverside’s Mike Rust.

Delaney joins PCT from The Morning Journal (Lorain, Ohio) where he reported on city government, police, schools and local business. Forshaw Hosts Annual Executive Camp
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — More than 100 PMPs and industry vendors attended the 2nd Annual Forshaw Executive Camp at the Omni Hotel in Charlotte, N.C., on May 1-3. Topics focused on managing a successful pest management business in today’s economy. Dr. Jerry Teplitz spoke about effectively managing employees with differing personality traits. Tom Reilly, sponsored by BASF, shared his course on “Value Added Selling.”
Other speakers included Stuart Mitchell, sponsored by PestWest, who discussed bed bug litigation and potential class action lawsuits; Dan Gordon, PCO Bookkeepers, who spoke on tax planning for the PCO; and Linda Midyett, PestSure, who reviewed insurance issues facing pest management companies.
To wrap up this year’s camp, Kevin Libel, president of Innovation, led a discussion on “PMPs in the Age of the Empowered Consumer.” Libel’s presentation was sponsored by Syngenta.

Bayer to PMPs: Tell Us Your Temprid ‘Save the Day’ Story
RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. — Pest management professionals now have the opportunity to share their triumphant stories of instances when they saved the day by tackling a pest problem for a family or business using Temprid SC Insecticide. Environmental Science, a division of Bayer CropScience, will select the most compelling stories submitted, and following a vote from other pest management professionals, will award the winning professional with an all-expense-paid trip for four, plus a choice of 10 free cases of Temprid SC or a professional marketing package to help promote his or her business.

Panetta replaces Rupert Broome who, after nine years as Bell’s Director for EMEA & Asia, accepted a position with Killgerm Group. Kim Kelley-Tunis has been promoted to technical services director for Rollins. Kelley-Tunis has more than 17 years of experience in the pest control industry, including 14 years at McCloud Services. She joined Orkin in 2009 as the Atlantic Division technical services director. Richard Warriner joined BASF Pest Control Solutions as Eastern Regional Sales Manager. Warriner, who will be based in Raleigh, N.C., will manage the Eastern region sales team, help spearhead business strategy and oversee sales activities for the region. Warriner has worked for BASF since 2004 in various positions. Albemarle Termite & Pest Control. of Elizabeth City, N.C. recently named Gary Bostock as operations manager for the Northeastern North Carolina service area. Bostock has been with the company for six years. Killgerm Group has announced a change in the management structure of its group board. Jonathan Peck, who has been chairman and managing director since its inception, is handing over the commercial management to Rupert Broome, who will be responsible for developing the group’s commercial activities. Broome was at Bell Laboratories since 2003, where he served as International Director for Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia. Larry Motes, director of training and development at Gregory Pest Solutions, recently became a board certified entomologist (BCE). Motes, earned a B.S. in entomology from the University of Georgia in 1988 and has 24 years of industry experience. Gregory also had three managers pass the Associate Certified Entomologist exam in April, including Tim Baumgarten, Charleston S.C. district manager; Don Foster, Charleston operations manager; Derek Johnson, Spartanburg S.C. district manager. FMC Professional Solutions recently honored market specialist Arnold Ramsey with the Sales Excellence Award. The company recognized him for his outstanding achievements in customer intimacy and going “above and beyond” to serve pest management professionals in his region. Ramsey is based in Columbus, Ohio, and handles marketing and sales in an 11-state region. He has been with FMC for 20 years. To support its expansion into the Lexington, Ky., region, Action Pest Control hired Danville resident and native Mike Vest. Vest comes to the company with more than 16 years industry experience in the Louisville and Lexington areas.

Agostino Panetta was promoted to European Business Manager for Bell Laboratories in May, where he will manage sales of Bell’s rodent control products in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
UPMA Labs, a division of Morach Regulatory, has named Dr. Mohamed (Mo) Rachadi as vice president of sales, marketing, product development and regulatory affairs for the professional products division. BedBug Central Announces Line-Up for North American Bed Bug Summit
LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. — BedBug Central announces the new speaker line-up for the third annual North American Bed Bug Summit. Atlanta-based Orkin, a wholly owned subsidiary of Rollins, recently expanded its employee base in Puerto Rico with the acquisition of Big Deal Exterminating. Jose Capo started Big Deal Exterminating in 1989 and will now take on a managerial role with Orkin. Big Deal Exterminating offers residential and commercial pest control in Puerto Rico. The business will move to an existing Orkin branch as part of the South Florida Region, which includes the Florida Keys and the U.S. Virgin Islands. In addition, Orkin has established international franchises in a number of new locations, including Mexico City, the Turks and Caicos Islands in the Caribbean and in Hainan Island in the People’s Republic of China. Orkin Mexico City will offer residential and commercial pest control, focusing mainly on hotels, office buildings, food processing facilities, restaurants, hospitals and apartments. Guillermo Roca, a chemical engineer, and Juan Pesqueira, owner and manager of a logistics company, are the franchise owners. The Caribbean franchise, owned by Ben and Bradley Walkin, will offer commercial pest control. Orkin Hainan Island will offer commercial pest control, focusing mainly on the vast hospitality sector located there. The principal franchise owner, Wu Wentao, is also the owner of pharmaceutical companies. His franchise partners are Wen Changyun, Li Yuanzhou and Zhu Rouyu. Mr. Wu’s wife, Wu Wenping, will be the managing director of the franchise operation. The company also has expanded in Roslyn, N.Y., with the acquisition of Evins Pest Control. The business will move to Orkin’s New Hyde Park branch, but will continue to operate as Evins. Evins has been family run since 1936, and the current owners, Charlie and Lori Frommer, bought the company in the 1990s from the Evins family. Orkin also expanded its service area in central Kansas with the acquisition of Pawnee Pest Control in Larned, Kan. Pawnee Pest Control Owner Jamie Walker started the company in 1998 and will join Orkin as an account manager. The company will join the nearest Orkin branch in Salina, Kan. |
