TEMP-AIR
TEMP-AIR’s new EBB-460V, is a lighter, narrower and more efficient Thermal Remediation electric bed bug heater. Nearly 100 pounds lighter and 10 inches narrower than its predecessor, the EBB-460V efficiently delivers 7,000 watts at 2,400 cubic feet per minute (CFM) of heated air. Also equipped with lockable swivel casters, the updated unit can be moved easily from room to room and through narrow doorways.
The EBB-460V delivers high volumes of air at a high velocity, ultimately reducing heat-up time. Designed with a digital temperature control, the EBB-460V is locked not to exceed 135°F based on air intake. This controlled application of heat ensures lethal temperatures are reached while minimizing damage to the space and its contents, the company says.
Keeping safety in mind, the EBB-460V is UL approved and listed as an insect control device. It is the only heater specifically designed for the application of heat to control bed bugs, the company says.
The EBB-460V is standard in the trailer, expanded and house power equipment packages. According to the manufacturer, the most popular equipment package combines a trailer equipped with a 40 kW generator, four EBB-460V (460 volt, three phase) heaters, fans, a wireless temperature monitoring system and various treatment accessories.

BASF Pest Control Solutions
Pest management professionals who want the flexibility needed to control a wide range of invading pests with an effective process can now turn to BASF Pest Control Solutions’ SmartSolution for Occasional Invaders. The SmartSolution combines a powerful lineup of general pest control products and Prescription Treatment brand IPM techniques, BASF says.
Occasional invaders, such as millipedes, centipedes, isopods, crickets, beetles, ants, spiders and wasps, require different treatments because they are often in different locations in and around a structure. The purpose of the SmartSolution for Occasional Invaders is to offer PMPs a process that can be applied to the interior and exterior of the home in one visit, the manufacturer says.
Active pest conditions should be given first priority. It’s important to choose an approach that complements, rather than interferes with, preventive maintenance efforts, BASF reports.

AB Bait Co.
AB Bait Co. will launch at NPMA PestWorld this month two new rodenticide formulations to the U.S. market under the brand name of Brigand, which was researched, developed and manufactured in the UK by British producer PelGar International.
The first two offerings to the market will encompass a soft bait and a wax block formulation. Soft baits are not only highly palatable but have the added advantage of being able to secure them in place on wires, bars or spikes, the company says. Block baits meanwhile utilize a different manufacturing process to produce a block that can be used in all-weather situations.
Both products contain the active ingredient bromadiolone.
Brigand SB is a highly palatable soft bait formulation produced using the highest quality ingredients, the company says. The combination of food-grade wheat flour, chopped grain, soft lard and synthetic peanut flavor is designed to tempt rodents away from other food sources. The company says the synthetic peanut flavor enhances the attractiveness of the bait while eliminating nut contamination and allergen risks.
Brigand WB, a ready-to-use cast wax block, is formulated for maximum palatability and moisture resistance. Manufactured using wheat flour blended with chopped wheat, oats and milk protein and held together with edible waxes, Brigand WB is designed as an all-around product, the company says.

FMC Professional Solutions
Dr. Laurel Hansen of Spokane Falls Community College performed a recent study in which she exposed one ant to Transport GHP insecticide from FMC Professional Solutions and introduced that dead ant to 50 live, untreated ants. She did this again by exposing two ants, five ants and then 10 ants, introducing each separately to 50 live, untreated ants.
The tests revealed that when five ants died from exposure to Transport GHP and were introduced to the 50 live ants, 100 percent control was achieved within 10 hours. The same results were achieved when 10 ants died from exposure to Transport GHP and were introduced to 50 live ants. When a product kills the ants outright, they don’t have the opportunity to take the material back home; that’s the importance of carrying it back to the nest, Hansen reported. She also concluded that if 10 percent of the ants treated with Transport return to the colony, the product will control the rest of the colony within 24 hours.

Mars Air Systems
Mars Air Systems produces a wide array of air curtains for commercial and industrial applications. Installing a Mars Air Curtain over any opening not only prevents flying insects from entering but also allows for unobstructed access into and out of a cooler or freezer. Low temperature levels within walk-in coolers and freezers are maintained as the curtain effectively creates a barrier against the rising temperatures of the kitchen.
The Mars LoPro series air curtain, a low-profile unit, when paired with Mars Air Systems’ walk-in installation kit, mounts to the front face of a new or existing walk-in with an easy-to-install mounting bracket, nylon bolt, magnetic reed switch and controller. The air curtain will automatically turn on when the door is opened and continue to create a seal across the door opening until the door is closed. This is a great solution for daily access into and out of the cooler or freezer as well as for those hour-plus long delivery times. The LoPro series air curtain comes with or without NSF certification, standard voltage selections, five new color options, and sizes ranging from 25 inches up to 12 feet wide.

Clarke
Clarke’s new Natular larvicide uses the active ingredient spinosad to control mosquito larvae in aquatic habitats. The firm was honored at the 2010 U.S. EPA Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Awards for developing a chemical technology that may contribute to pollution prevention. According to the manufacturer, the patent-pending plaster matrix releases optimal levels of product during times when mosquitoes breed.
The active ingredient in Natular, spinosad, was discovered and produced by Dow AgroSciences and is in use in more than 250 crops in more than 85 countries. Natular has been categorized as a "Reduced Risk" larvicide by the U.S. EPA. Clarke says Natular is a next-generation larvicide that has strong potential to reduce the pesticide load in the environment, since it is designed to use the exact amount of active ingredient needed to control mosquito larvae, at toxicity rates below other products.
By creating several proprietary tablet formulations with a plaster matrix that insulates and then slowly releases the spinosad molecule, Clarke has made spinosad formulations that can provide control for up to 180 days, the company reports. This matrix is wholly comprised of compounds approved for use by the USDA in the production of certified organic products. Registered for use domestically and abroad, seven commercial formulations of Natular have been created for use in larval control in a range of environments, from catch basins to salt marshes.

Innolytics
OvoControl P, birth control for pigeons, has been reclassified as a general use pesticide by the California Department of Pesticide Regulation (CADPR). This flock management tool is now general use in 49 states.
The original restricted use designation limited the use of OvoControl P to licensed applicators only, the company says, and with the new classification, no special license or permit is required to purchase or use the pigeon control product in California.
Bird Barrier of America is the newest OvoControl distributor and officials at that company say site monitoring requirements on the new label have also been revised providing for a significant reduction in labor for both PMPs and building managers.

Monzi
A new field test recently confirmed the results of a previous laboratory test that demonstrated the ability of the Leaf Defier family of products to help prevent mosquitoes from breeding in the free-standing water of clogged gutter systems, the company reports.
According to Monzi, the findings show that Leaf Defier can change conducive conditions because the system’s flexible, mesh inserts allow water and fine particulates to flow freely through gutters while keeping leaves and other debris out. As a result, the company says, all pests are kept from breeding in the water of clogged gutters or feeding on trapped seeds, acorns and other sources of food.
The latest field test was performed under controlled conditions with two gutter systems placed outside in shaded areas. After a five-week period, the system protected by Leaf Defier showed no signs of breeding mosquitoes, while the unprotected gutter was infected with live larvae and pupae of Aedes albopicitus, the company said. The test also confirmed previous findings of a laboratory study on two sections of gutter that were sprinkled with approximately 30 eggs of Aedes aegypti and doused with water. After 14 days, only the gutter protected by Leaf Defier was free of larvae and pupae, Monzi said.

Exosect
An Exosect-led consortium has been awarded a quarter of a million pound grant ($396,782 U.S.) from the Technology Strategy Board to bring to market biotechnology for the control of grain store pests.
The consortium, led by UK-based Exosect, has worked together for more than four years during a Sustainable Arable LINK-funded project to identify an effective fungal pathogen for the control of a range of key grain insect pests. The outcome of the LINK funded project was so successful that the consortium has just been awarded another grant, which will enable the consortium to complete product development, create data for the regulatory authorities and bring the product to market.
The product is a formulation of the entomopathagenic fungus, Beauvaria bassiana, and Exosect’s patented delivery system, Entostat powder. A patent for the composite formulation has been filed. The product will be used in grain storage and processing structures.
Exosect said the product’s initial focus will be Europe, but the firm has plans to make it available in the U.S. However, since the product is still in the developmental phase there is no timeline for U.S. availability.
