PCT, Syngenta and industry colleagues took time out of their busy NPMA PestWorld schedules to recognize the 2014 Crown Leadership Award winners during a special ceremony.
The awards spotlight individuals who have contributed positively to the growth and development of the structural pest control industry, as well as established ties with fellow business leaders, civic groups and customers in their local communities. This is the 26th consecutive year in which Syngenta has partnered with PCT for the awards.
“We are excited to shine the spotlight on four professionals who tirelessly give of themselves for the betterment of their organizations and communities,” said PCT Publisher Dan Moreland.
Added John Dombrosky, head of marketing, Syngenta Professional Pest Management, “Thanks to the continuous efforts of these winners, we can take pride in the important role our industry plays in keeping customers’ lives and properties uninterrupted from the nuisance and worry of pests.”
The 2014 Crown Leadership Award winners are:
- J. Bryan Cooksey III, McCall Service, Jacksonville, Fla.
- Dr. Steven Kells, University of Minnesota, St. Paul, Minn.
- Laura Simpson, Dugas Pest Control, Baton Rouge, La.
- Scott Steckel, Varment Guard Environmental Services, Columbus, Ohio
Profiles of the winners were featured in a special 13th issue of PCT magazine that was mailed with the October issue.

First-Ever Crown Leadership “Lifetime Achievement Award” Presented in Orlando
In addition to honoring the Crown Leadership Class of 2014, this year’s ceremony had another memorable moment — one of the most exciting in the event’s 26-year history.
This year’s ceremony included the first-ever Crown Leadership “Lifetime Achievement Award” as selected by previous Leadership award recipients.
To qualify, candidates must have been a member of a Leadership Class between 1989-2000; have a minimum of 25 years of industry experience; be engaged in various public service initiatives in their local communities; and still be active either in a day-to-day business or consulting role with their companies and/or the pest management industry.
PCT tallied all of the votes and the finalists were:
- Ward Combs II, Presto-X (Rentokil)
- Bob Dold, Rose Pest Solutions
- Norman Goldenberg, Terminix (Retired)
- Russ Ives, Rose Pest Solutions
- Larry Treleven, Sprague Pest Solutions
After much anticipation, PCT Publisher Dan Moreland announced that the winner was Norman Goldenberg. And although Goldenberg was unable to attend the event due to a previous commitment out of town, he did record a video acceptance speech, which was played at the awards ceremony. “I want to thank all of you for being here and I want to especially thank Syngenta and PCT magazine for honoring me through your votes for this inaugural lifetime achievement award,” Goldenberg said.
