Neil Ogg recently became the director of Clemson University’s Regulatory and Public Service Programs, Division of Public Service and Agriculture. His new duties will include administration of the division’s three departments: Pesticide Regulation, Fertilizer and Seed Certification and Plant Industry. He is in charge of the enforcement of the laws and public service programs falling under each program. Clemson University Regulatory and Public Service Programs enforce federal and state laws that apply to regulated industries and individuals in the areas of seed, plants, fertilizers, lime and pesticides. Ogg succeeds Calvin Schoulties, who was named director of the School of Plant, Statistical and Ecological Sciences.
Vicki Eakins was promoted to technical marketing coordinator for Bell Laboratories in April. In the newly created position, Eakins serves as a technical resource to Bell’s sales and marketing team, as well as to PCOs, distributors and others in the pest control industry. With four years of experience as Bell’s in-house/Canadian technical representative and marketing assistant, Eakins develops customized technical training programs for Bell’s customers and distributors.
In other news, Peter Martin has joined Bell Labs as technical director in charge of research and development. Among his responsibilities, Martin directs the operation of Bell’s chemical and biological laboratories, including formulating and testing Bell products and active ingredients, as well as developing new products.
Dow AgroSciences LLC recently announced four promotions in the company’s professional pest management group. Kevin Burns has been promoted to district sales manager for the Southeast District, after spending more than two years as a marketing specialist for the Sentricon Termite Colony Elimination System. He replaces Joe Sce, who was the district sales manager for the Southeast District since 1990. Sce will now focus his attention on special projects for the Sentricon System through the remainder of 1998.
In addition, Phil Howard has been promoted to district sales manager for the Florida District. Previously, Howard was the marketing manager specialist for turf and ornamental insecticides. He replaces Sam Barrick, former district sales manager for the Florida District, who was promoted to senior marketing specialist for the Sentricon System.
Four employees within Bayer Corporation’s Garden and Professional Care Unit have recently earned promotions. Trevor Thorley, formerly vice president of the GPC unit, was named senior vice president, sales and marketing, in the Crop Protection Business Group. In his new position, Thorley oversees the sales and marketing functions for both crop protection and GPC products.
Rich Burns has been promoted to director, GPC professional sales and marketing. Burns is responsible for leading the professional business in the pest control, golf course, and lawn care markets.
Michael Ruizzo, Ph.D., has been appointed central area sales manager, GPC professional sales and marketing. Ruizzo is responsible for direction and management of sales in the nine states that make up Bayer’s recently formed central area. And Jorge Moreno has been promoted to marketing product specialist, GPC professional sales and marketing.
In addition, Bayer GPC has hired Byron Reid, Ph.D., as research product manager for the pest control market. Reid is responsible for managing the research and development for structural pest control products, including Premise, Tempo and Baygon insecticides.
Ben Voss has joined the Whitmire Micro-Gen Research Laboratories regional technical specialist team and is responsible for sales and training in the southwest territory — which includes California, Nevada, Utah, Arizona and Hawaii. Voss has worked in the pest control industry for the past three years. He resides in Los Angeles.
Brian Mann has been appointed regional technical specialist for the New England territory for Whitmire Micro-Gen. He is responsible for sales and training in New York, Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut. Mann has worked in the pest control industry for nine years and lives in New Jersey.

AMERICAN CYANAMID ADOPTS “NEW LOOK.” American Cyanamid Company has adopted a new identity for its pest control products group. A new advertising campaign features a cheetah, poised for attack, with the tagline “Fast Forward.” According to the company, the new campaign presents Cyanamid customers with an image of confidence that will span their product line now and into the future. American Cyanamid plans to incorporate the “new look” into packaging and advertising for existing and future pest control products, including Siege Gel Insecticide and Siege Fire Ant Bait.
NEW PUBLICATIONS FROM BELL LABS. Bell Laboratories released two new company publications this summer. The 1998 edition of the company’s Product and Label Guide includes photos and descriptions of Bell’s entire line of rodent control products, as well as EPA registration numbers and packaging sizes for each product. Complete specimen labels, MSDSs and USDA approval letters are also included for all rodenticides. The 32-page catalog also features an illustrated guide detailing the features and uses of all Bell products.
Also published by Bell is the company’s corporate brochure, Bell Laboratories Inc. — The World Leader in Rodent Control Technology. It has been updated to reflect new products and capabilities of the rodenticide manufacturer. The 16-page, color brochure presents an overview of Bell, beginning with its corporate mission statement and philosophy.
