Pest control companies provided a range of mosquito control services in 2021. According to the 2022 PCT State of the Mosquito Control Market survey, the top three were regular, targeted applications via mister-blower or sprayer (88 percent), special event services (63 percent), such as for outdoor weddings, and larval control (61 percent).
Mosquito control services were offered as an add-on service (82 percent) and as a primary service (46 percent). As well, a growing number of companies — 24 percent in 2021, up from 13 percent in 2015 — rolled mosquito control into their general pest control programs.
About five years ago, Rottler Pest Solutions in St. Louis, Mo., introduced a premium pest control service featuring mosquito control and 10 yearly service visits. During mosquito season, typically March through October, technicians visit properties monthly.
Not only does the all-in-one service deliver peace of mind without customers feeling nickeled-and-dimed for add-on services, but more frequent service visits mean technicians inspect more often for any potential pest issues. “We try to show a lot of value,” said Jay Everitt, technical director of Rottler Pest Solutions.
He said the premium service has “taken off,” with about 20 percent of residential customers signed up for the comprehensive program. “We feel it could be double that. We feel that we could easily get to 50 percent,” said Everitt.
Pest control companies were most likely to offer mosquito control services to residential (98 percent) and commercial (74 percent) accounts, found the PCT survey.
