Everyone needs guidance when learning a new task, market or industry. The pest management and the closed crawlspace markets are no exception.
We asked seasoned professionals their favorite tips and tricks about performing closed crawlspace work. Here’s what they had to say:
Research Everything
Billy Tesh, Pest Management Systems Inc. and Crawlspace Depot
“Do the research and understand the technology, science and training. We provide training and have a lot of videos that will help you know what to look for when inspecting a crawlspace. At Crawlspace Depot we do Zoom meetings on the science, best practices and provide first-hand knowledge of various products related to closed crawlspace work. We also provide field training.”
Details Details Details
Chad Highley, A.C.E., Environmental Pest Control
“Be very detail oriented from inspection to finished product. That’s primary. Narrow down your field of vision to the smallest of details. Then once you do win the business you have be partnered with a good supply company.”
Monitor & Don’t Overspend
Skye Bunning, Building Performance Specialists
“My top tips would be that you don’t need a special $2,000 dehumidifier, a regular one will do fine. The other is super important, you have to monitor the humidity with a system that will send you an alert to let you know if it gets above a certain point. Too many buy the expensive dehumidifier, run it at 50 percent humidity and that’s not needed. High 60s is fine. You need one with a monitor that doesn’t just beep, it needs to email you because someday it will quit, and they’ll have a moisture problem and monitoring is key.”
Workmanship & Photos
Kevin Rollins, Ace Exterminating
“Taking pride in the workmanship and end product you deliver to the customers is crucial to success in closed crawlspace work. It directly reflects on you and getting referrals. We work hard to provide a nice end result and correct the issues once and for all. Lastly, take pictures to show the completed work.”
