‘A Bug’s Life’ Topped List of Favorite 1990s Insect-Related Films

Forty-three percent of poll respondents chose “A Bug’s Life” as their favorite insect-related film from the 1990s, followed by Starship Troopers (23 percent).

CLEVELAND – Some of the most popular insect-related films were released on the big screen during the 1990s. Results from PCT’s recent reader poll found that “A Bug’s Life” (43 percent) was the favored insect-related film from the 1990s.

Released in 1998 and voiced by actors Dave Foley, Kevin Spacey and Julia Louis-Dreyfus, the Internet Movie Database (IMDb) provided the following summary of “A Bug’s Life”: A misfit ant, looking for "warriors" to save his colony from greedy grasshoppers, recruits a group of bugs that turn out to be an inept circus troupe.

On the movie review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, the Critics Consensus was: "A Bug's Life" is a rousing adventure that blends animated thrills with witty dialogue and memorable characters - and another smashing early success for Pixar.

The movie grossed $162 million in the U.S. and Canada and $363 million worldwide, according to IMDb.

“Starship Troopers” (25 percent) polled second, followed by “Arachnophobia” (23 percent) and “Antz” (9 percent). On PCT’s LinkedIn page, we also received write-in votes for “Joe’s Apartment” (1996) and “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids” (released in 1989, so technically not a ‘90s film).
