ATHENS, Ga. — American Pest Control has a long-standing relationship with Extra Special People, a non-profit organization in Watkinsville, Ga., that provides opportunities for people of all ability levels to thrive. Big Jump is an event held each year to raise funds for participants to attend camps and programs throughout the year.
In 2017, American Pest Control’s CEO, Laurie Higginbotham, participated in Big Jump as a celebrity skydiver. This year, Laurie served as the co-chair of the event. American Pest Control technician Andy Deutsch and customer service representative Amber Puckett decided to embark on the skydiving adventure together before their marriage this summer. Naming their team Ampest Sweethearts, Amber and Andy campaigned for months to raise the donations needed to participate as skydivers. With the help of coworkers, friends, and family, they raised $1,225 for Extra Special People’s programming. That amount was then matched by American Pest Control for a total donation of $2,450!
The day of the event was a celebration, with many supporters and ESP campers in attendance. Amber and Andy were moved by the experience and are already planning their next dive. Amber said of the experience, “I truly felt like I was flying and to know that we were doing it for a good cause made it that much more amazing.” Andy echoed her sentiments, adding “It was a life changing experience that everyone needs to try. Helping others in the process makes it even better.”
American Pest Control says it is proud of their team for rallying together to support an amazing community resource and plans to continue their support in following years.
