TUCSON, Ariz. – Truly Nolen Pest Control’s Human Resources Department Career Week is taking place Feb. 17-21, and the company’s unveiling of a new website where any team member can begin to chart their own course is a seminal moment.
“As career development goes hand-in-hand with retention, we wanted to create a way for our team members to feel empowered to follow the direction that interests them,” said Jeff Bohne, director of human resources, Truly Nolen. “This week, we are unveiling our ‘Your Truly Nolen Career’ House where team members can grow their career brick-by-brick.”
The website includes 24 bricks such as “build relationships, “choose a mentor”, “be an advocate" and “train others.” In fact, the “Your Career Tracker” allows a team member to have a checklist of the modules they will need to go through in order to be ready for a future promotion when a position becomes available or to continue their successful career in their current position.”
The company’s track record of career pathing successes over the past four years led to an examination of how to best quantify the key characteristics demonstrated by team members prior to creation of the new website.
Michallea Small, a termite supervisor in Phoenix, Ariz., first joined the company in 2020 as a termite technician. She is an example of someone who has grown with the company and succeeded with her direction. “My favorite thing about working for this company has to be the company culture that starts on day one and, for me, has continued throughout my career here,” said Small.
Neal Killian, who joined the company in 2020 as a manager in Port St. Lucie, Fla., became the area manager for Central Florida in 2024. He is another example of someone who had a course in mind and was able to grow within the company. “My current role allows me to coach and develop team members to help them further their personal and professional goals, which others did for me along the way,” said Killian.
Ashley Luttrell first joined the company in 2014 through a temp agency as a customer service representative. Her talent in that role and desire to learn the pest control business led to her recent promotion to Operations Manager of the company’s Fort Worth service office. “Two things I am looking forward to in my new role are being able to build a great culture and growing our market share in Texas,” said Luttrell.
“In addition to Jeff Bohne, our Career Building Coordinator Robert King and I have worked hard to reinforce our company’s mission to not only have the best training department in the industry but also support personal and professional development for each team member,” said Justin Wichman, who was promoted to the newly-created position of People Development Manager in 2024. “We believe the rollout of our new ‘Career House’ module will help others become the next Michallea, Neal, or Ashley.”
