Envu Adds Alvaro Romero to Technical Team

Alvaro Romero, Ph.D., brings applied research and technical expertise to Envu in support of the company’s line of pest control products.


CARY, N.C. – Envu announced the addition of Alvaro Romero, Ph.D., to its Professional Pest Management team in North America. Romero will serve as a technical market development manager, Western U.S.

“Alvaro brings a wealth of knowledge and technical research experience to our team,” said Gokhan Vergon, head of Professional Pest Management, North America. “With over 30 peer-reviewed manuscripts, 10 trade journal articles, 20 online article features and numerous technical presentations at meetings within the pest control industry, Alvaro will be a key driver in pest control innovation and solution development at Envu.”

An urban entomologist and 12-year professor, Romero has conducted research on reemerging bed bugs, resulting in applied research that has significantly contributed to the improved management of this public health pest.

He earned a degree in veterinary medicine from National University of Colombia, a master’s degree in veterinary entomology from Kansas State University, a Ph.D. in urban entomology from University of Kentucky, and postdoctoral studies in urban entomology from North Carolina State University.

Prior to joining Envu, Romero was a professor and researcher at New Mexico State University, focusing on medically and economically important southwestern pests of the United States, such as bed bugs, Turkestan cockroaches, scorpions and kissing bugs. At the most recent Envu LinkedIn Live event titled, “What Should You Know About Bed Bugs?” Romero was featured as an expert panelist and discussed bed bug biology, behavior and control strategies for early detection and effective management.
