Hal Coleman Presented with GPCA Hall of Fame Award

The award honors those who have dedicated their career and energy to advancing the pest management industry and the Georgia Pest Control Association.

ATHENS, Ga. — Hal Coleman, president of Coleman Services, was honored for his years of service by being named Georgia Pest Control Association’s most recent Hall of Fame recipient at the association's annual Winter Conference Jan. 10, in Athens, Ga.

GPCA President Greg Holley said, “Hal has been an intricate part of the pest control business in Georgia and GPCA for over 50 years.  It was an honor to be part of inducting him into the GPCA Hall of Fame.”

Coleman received a degree in agriculture from the University of Georgia. He was hired by the Georgia Department of Agriculture to be a field inspector six months before his graduation, a position that he held for 10 years. Coleman left to work for Arrow Exterminators for six years and then opened his own business, North Fulton Exterminating, which he ran for 18 years. He sold the business and opened his own pest control coaching business. Through his business, Coleman instructs customer service classes while being a frequent speaker at industry events. Further, he instructs customer service classes at the UGA Griffin campus. 

“Coleman’s knowledge of the industry is amazing,” said Dennis Judy, who nominated Coleman. “He has graciously given of his time and talents to support and serve the industry that he loves. The GPCA deserves a Hall of Fame member of this caliber and Hal deserves to be recognized for his many years of outstanding service.”

Coleman, recipient of the GPCA Pioneer Award, joined GPCA when he started North Fulton Exterminating.  He served as Public Relations Committee chair during the inaugural GPCA Golf Tournament, which is still raising funds for GPCA. He was instrumental in delivering the first Train the Trainer program which he helped teach for serval years. Coleman served on all the executive committee and board positions, becoming GPCA President in 2004-2005. His storied service includes delivering the first State of the Association Address at the annual Winter Conference. Then he turned his eye to beginning the charitable initiatives in GPCA ensuring GPCA supported Habitat for Humanity and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society during his tenure. He has been recognized consistently for his dedication to the industry and GPCA.

Coleman is not a one-note recipient. He has been a member of the Roswell Rotary Club for 24 years, served as an EMT in Roswell for 10 years, and the National Guard for 6 years. In 2001 Coleman was inducted into the Atlanta Country Music Hall of Fame along with Ray Stevens, and others. Coleman as Milton Crabapple recorded his original work, The Bird, with Jerry Reed which went number 1 on the country charts.
