QUEBEC CITY, Quebec, Canada — For family company Maheu&Maheu, Quebec’s leader in pest management, June not only signals the beginning of summer, sparking the mass arrival of creeping, flying, stinging bugs that make this the company’s most lucrative time of year.
No, this year June also marks its 80th anniversary. Having moved its headquarters a few months ago to a newly constructed building on Quebec City’s Rue des Rocailles, currently awaiting LEED certification, the energetic team of Maheu&Maheu is very proud to celebrate the company’s success, generating record sales of more than $16 million for 2012. This jewel of Quebec entrepreneurship ranks third in Canada in its business sector, and is ranked 40th in the 2013 PCT Top 100.
Michael Maheu noted that his company plays a major role for a number of companies in the agricultural, agrifood, industrial, and commercial sectors. “We help them comply with certain standards and maintain certifications, all while protecting their reputation. We offer each and every one of them a tailor-made prevention program,” he said. “First, we create a line of defense outside the building in order to avoid pest infiltrations, then we install a detection network inside, in tandem with regular inspections. Without a doubt, loyalty is the best proof that our customers are satisfied. We have worked with several companies for many years.”
Under the leadership of Michel Maheu, the company took a significant turn towards using green products and more physical methods. ISO 9001:2008 certified, Maheu&Maheu implemented a sustainable development program in 2009, thereby significantly setting itself apart from other companies in the industry.
Today, Maheu&Maheu operates five regional offices located in Quebec City, Boucherville, Rimouski, Saint-Léonard-d’Aston, and Chatham, in Southwestern Ontario, thus covering a wide area. The company has also established strategic alliances that have enabled it to expand its market and exchange technical and scientific knowledge with various partners. Several other third-generation Maheus joined the company in the 1990s, including Chief Financial Officer Louis-Philippe Maheu. Maheu&Maheu employs some 60 people.
