QUEBEC CITY - For family-owned Maheu&Maheu, June not only marks the beginning of summer or the massive arrival of seasonal pests, which triggers the most active period of the year. June marks its founding anniversary and this year the company celebrated its 90th birthday.
To kick-off festivities, all employees and their spouses gathered at the Fairmont Manoir Richelieu during the first weekend of April. More than 250 attended the Horace Award Ceremony banquet, an annual event of recognition for the employees, 96 of whom are company shareholders. Top management also took this opportunity to present the Serge-Boutin Merits to the most deserving employees’ children. This was the first time the company held its event after three consecutive cancellations. This year's theme was Physical Health (the second part of a trilogy initiated under the theme of Mental Health in 2019 which will be completed with Financial Health in 2024).
With revenues exceeding $27 million in 2022, Maheu&Maheu is the second largest Canadian-owned company in the country and ranked 35th on the most recent PCT Top 100 list.
The French translation for “pest management” is “gestion parasitaire,’’ a practice Maheu&Maheu adopted 25 years ago that emphasis all aspects of pest management – not just applying products. "There is still work to be done to explain what we do because of the mysterious side related to our field but the public is gradually getting used to this relatively recent designation," said Michel Maheu, general manager, Maheu&Maheu. This designation takes on its full meaning as pesticide regulations multiply and ecological approaches come to the forefront. Maheu&Maheu was an early adopter of green pest control, shifting to a minimal pesticide use approach in 1989.
