DES MOINES, Iowa – Celebrating their fifth year of “Pest-Free Holiday,” Miller Pest & Termite is providing three local families with free pest control to rid their homes of unwanted guests in time for the holidays.
“About five years ago, we wanted to find a way to give back to the people in our neighborhoods,” said CEO Joel Miller, “So we decided to donate services to some families who needed help getting rid of pests like bed bugs and rodents in their homes but couldn't afford it.”
Joel Miller, alongside his wife Jen Miller, chief strategic officer for Miller Pest & Termite, created the “Pest-Free Holidays” campaign in their local Des Moines service area to not only give back to those in need during the holidays, but make a positive impact on their community.
“We typically help two or three families every year, which might not seem like a lot,” said Joel Miller, “But, to those families, our donation makes a world of difference.”
Joel Miller explained that their applicant numbers grow every year, making the selection process even harder, but they hope to increase those applications significantly this year to reach further in their community.
“To me, this project is really special and something I hold close to my heart,” said Jen Miller “It's our way of saying thank you to our community and helping the people who have supported us. It feels incredible to be see the impact our donation truly makes on the lives of those in our community.”
Jen Miller, who is the driving force behind the “Pest-Free Holiday” project, wants to expand her outreach within her community through the pest control industry.
“We are able to take our pest control services and provide healthier, safer homes for local families who may never have been able to do so on their own,” she said. “And with that, it shows our industry how important it is to give back.”
As Jen Miller approaches her 10-year milestone, she is eager to spearhead other initiatives and aims to establish her presence within and beyond the pest control industry, starting with her “Pest-Free Holiday” community outreach project.
“We want to continue to see this project grow each and every year, impacting more and more lives, and perhaps even inspiring other pest control companies to do the same in their communities,” she said.
Miller Pest & Termite will begin their search for the next “Pest-Free Holiday” families from Dec. 1 through Dec. 22.
Families who are dealing with troublesome pests, such as rodents, bed bugs, roaches and more, without the financial means to pay for treatment will be considered and are encouraged to apply. Qualifying families can apply for the program by filling out the form.
Jen Miller expects this project will empower her community and inspire others to make a positive change in their community.
“Words can’t describe the pure joy and happiness that comes over me when I see the impact we make on families in our community,” Jen Miller said. “It’s a truly rewarding experience that has not only impacted our community, but also those in our company.”
