DENVER – A record-breaking 4,000 pest management professionals have gathered in Denver this week for PestWorld 2024, the National Pest Management Association’s (NPMA) annual convention and exposition

As part of the Envu-sponsored opening ceremony, NPMA CEO Dominique Stumpf welcomed attendees and noted that PestWorld has become “a homecoming for leaders in the pest management industry.”

Stumpf shared that her personal goals were always to help others and that PestWorld aims to inspire attendees through shared experiences, community-building and collaboration.

Highlighting the industry's impressive growth, she noted the success of the Membership Growth Initiative, which has brought in more members, especially small businesses.

Stumpf then shared several recent NPMA initiatives, including:

Attracting veterans.  NPMA has had success connecting veterans with careers in pest control through the Department of Defense’s SkillBridge program. This initiative has led to 24 successful placements in 26 member companies.

Regulatory advocacy. NPMA has been proactive on the regulatory front, particularly in collaborating with EPA on rodenticide regulations and supporting legislative efforts at both federal and state levels, particularly when it comes pesticide preemption. “While the Farm Bill is still being negotiated, NPMA is well positioned, with our language being included in the bill drafted by the House, and we are continuing to advocate that our language [regarding preemption] be included in the Senate draft when it is released,” said Stumpf.

Leadership development. The inaugural Leader Launch class was recognized; they are: Joel Nolasco, Billy Olesen, Emilio Polce, Janet Preece, and Julie Tesh-Clark. Stumpf said by completing this class, these individuals sharpened their skills in public speaking and servant leadership.

QualityPro turns 20. This year has marked the 20th anniversary of NPMA’s QualityPro program. Stumpf reflected on QualityPro's success and introduced NPMA Pro, a new individual certification “to recognize talented professionals in the industry.” The program is accompanied by a suite of training resources.

NPMA Spotlight Series. This is a new series of one-day forums that address critical industry challenges. The first event will take place in February and focuses on rodenticides, providing updates on regulatory changes.

Following Stumpf, attendees heard from Envu’s Mark Schneid, who shared recent developments at Envu, including the company’s recent acquisition of FMC and the just-announced news of its purchase of the In2Care Mosquito Station.

Chris Collins and his John Denver Tribute Band then treated attendees to a trio of songs from the late Denver-associated musician.

Attendees then headed headed to a packed exhibit hall, where they visited with vendors to learn about the latest products and technologies in the pest management industry. PestWorld continues through Friday. Return to PCT Online for ongoing coverage.
