Orkin Technicians Think Fast to Extinguish Car Fire

Two Orkin technicians were driving their morning route when they saw a car on fire behind them.

During what started as a routine morning route, two Orkin technicians had to think fast when they saw a driver struggling with a car fire.

Saul Rodriguez and Ed Werner, Orkin technicians in Baltimore, heard a loud "pop" from outside the truck. They initially thought something had fallen off, but when they looked in the mirror they saw a woman pulling over to the shoulder with flames under the car.

“We’re not firemen or mechanics, but we just knew we didn’t want the fire to spread, and we needed to keep as far away as we could to stay safe,” Werner said.

The technicians pulled over, and while Werner used a fire extinguisher on the fire, Rodriguez stayed with the driver, Bonnie Hoppa.

“I just did what I felt I would want someone to do for me in that situation,” Rodriguez said.
