HOOD RIVER, Ore. – The annual Pacific Northwest Pest Management Conference (PNWPMC) concluded in Hood River, Oregon this past weekend. This year's conference, held under the mission of empowering businesses to excel in a technology-driven landscape, delivered a powerful blend of business strategy, legal updates, technological advancements and expert technical training.
Nestled amidst the scenic beauty of Hood River, the PNWPMC attracted around 250 industry leaders from across the nation for two days of intensive learning. The conference kicked off with a vibrant reception, followed by a packed agenda designed to equip attendees with the tools and knowledge necessary for success.
Friday’s sessions focused on business growth and operational efficiency. The National Pest Management Association (NPMA) provided crucial industry updates, while Cyrus Ahmadi of PCO Bookkeepers and Adam Weber of Driven offered insights into leveraging technology to streamline operations.
Alan Draper of Proof Marketing delivered a masterclass on scaling marketing strategies for rapid customer base expansion. Alex Wheatley of Fisher & Phillips, provided critical updates on new paid family medical leave laws in Oregon and Washington. Stuart and Chris Aust of The Aust Group concluded the business sessions with expert guidance on maximizing business profit for future mergers and acquisitions.
Following state association meetings, attendees participated in a successful dinner and auction, raising $26,000 for urban entomology research and development at Washington State University (WSU).
Saturday featured a lineup of technical sessions delivered by renowned experts. Sylvia Kenmuir of BASF provided insights on termite and rodent control, while Dini Miller of Virginia Tech shared strategies for managing bed bugs and cockroaches. Jamel Sandidge of Nisus covered flies and spiders, and Dr. Laurel D. Hansen captivated the audience with the latest research on Northwest ants.
The conference also featured a dedicated business track, allowing for deeper engagement with Friday’s speakers and fostering valuable discussions among industry professionals.
A key highlight of the event was the transition of leadership, as Billy Olesen assumed the role of chair, succeeding Sean Bergmann after 13 years of dedicated service.
