PPMA Updates Its School Programs and Gifts NPMA’s Workforce Development Initiative

The Professional Pest Management Alliance announced investments in programs that promote the pest control industry to the public and the potential workforce.

FAIRFAX, Va. – The Professional Pest Management Alliance (PPMA), the consumer marketing and education arm of the National Pest Management Association (NPMA), announced it has released two new versions of its customizable school presentations that bring pest control into K-8 and high school, technical and vocational classrooms. Perfect for virtual career days via Zoom or in-person instruction following school safety guidelines, the updated presentations feature new videos and content to make them more engaging with student audiences.

“Educating younger generations about the value of professional pest control and the role it plays in protecting public health, property and our food supply is incredibly important,” said Cindy Mannes, executive director of PPMA. “Not only can these programs educate children about the fascinating world of insects and inspire future entomologists but they can also help companies provide a community service while attracting younger talent to the industry.”

The elementary school program, Pest Control Goes Back to School, shares cool facts and information about bugs and rodents, what makes them pests, and highlights educational resources available on PestWorldForKids.org. The updated presentation now includes video footage from PPMA’s Rodents Revealed and Will They Eat It? campaigns, to keep children engaged.

For companies looking to connect with high school, technical and vocational students considering a future in the skilled workforce, the Careers in Pest Control presentation emphasizes the pest control industry as a rewarding and viable career path outside of the typical 4-year college degree. It is updated to include information about pest control as an essential service during the COVID-19 pandemic and features new industry and outlook statistics, growth projections, and allows customization for companies to share more about their business and job opportunities.

To further support the growth of the professional pest control industry, PPMA is gifting these presentations to the National Pest Management Association’s Workforce Development Initiative. Valued at more than $15,000, the presentations will be included in Employer Toolkit made available to Founders Club and Patrons Club members through a new members-only website, NPMAWorkforce.org, which will be live in the coming weeks.

“The Workforce Development Initiative plays a fundamental role in the continued growth of the industry,” added Mannes, “PPMA is proud to support the program as it tackles the increasing challenge of attracting and retaining a skilled workforce.”

The updated school programs are currently available to PPMA Guardians and Contributors through its online marketing hub, PPMAMainframe.org.
