FAIRFAX, Va. – On March 3, the PWIPM of New England awarded the 3rd annual Women of Excellence Award to Hope Bowman, B.C.E., of Waltham Pest Services, headquartered in Natick, Mass. Bowman joined Waltham Pest Services in 2019 as its technical, training, and quality manager covering the New England market. Before moving back to New England, Bowman held the position of entomologist at Western Pest Services in the Mid-Atlantic, providing technical support, aiding in problem solving and insect identification, promoting quality service and making IPM recommendations to customers.

She was with Western Pest Services for 14 years prior to joining Waltham. Bowman holds a master of science from North Carolina State University and a bachelor of arts in biology from Connecticut College. She is a board certified entomologist and has been on the board of the Eastern Division of the Pennsylvania Pest Management Association and the New England Pest Management Association. Bowman is also a member of Pi Chi Omega, an organization for entomologists providing scholarships for those interested in careers in pest control and entomology.

Bowman volunteers and tutors at the Literacy Volunteers of Greater Hartford, teaching English as a second language. Her focus on education and training is seen far beyond the pest control industry. She is also an advocate of education in the community with the creation of Waltham Services Academy, an education-based program meant to teach the community about mosquitos and ticks and how to avoid them and the diseases they transmit. Sharing her expert knowledge is a passion for her and keeping her friends and neighbors safe and healthy is one way she can use that knowledge for good in the community.

“Hope is a great asset to the industry,” Christian Weppert, Bowman’s nominator for the award, said. “She is focused on helping employees and customers improve their skills and knowledge.  She has a positive attitude that rubs off on everyone around her and makes pest control an interesting and rewarding experience for everyone she interacts with. She has become a go to person not only for our employees, but for customers and other pest control providers and always makes time for those who need her. She has truly earned the reputation as one of the most respected, accomplished, and influential women in our industry.”
