STARKVILLE, Miss. – Santos Portugal announced that he has joined the staff at Mississippi State University as an assistant extension professor of urban entomology.
Portugal is a board certified entomologist and a Public Health Entomology (PHE) certificate holder with a bachelor’s degree in entomology from Texas A&M University and a Ph.D. in entomology from Mississippi State University. Prior to joining Mississippi State, Portugal was the director of quality and technical training at ABC Home & Commercial Services, Austin, Texas.
In his new role, Portugal’s responsibilities include establishing an urban entomology course, providing educational content regarding urban pests via multiple platforms and establishing a research program that primarily focuses on applied urban entomology.
