VICTORIA, B.C., Canada - In a move that further extends its reach into the growing North American green pest management market, Contech Enterprises has announced the acquisition of Michigan-based pest management products company, Tanglefoot. Tanglefoot has been manufacturing chemical-free pest management products for 125 years. Contech started designing and distributing environmentally-friendly garden and pet innovations in 1987.
The Tanglefoot purchase adds numerous new products to Contech’s green garden and pest management line including insect traps, tree care, and animal repellents. Tanglefoot products are sold to city parks and urban forestry departments and in lawn and garden centers, nurseries, and hardware stores worldwide.
“Effective, green pest management and bio-pesticides are the future of the industry,” said Contech president and CEO, Mark Grambart. “Tanglefoot has been a leader in the green pest management market since before most companies even knew the market existed. We are thrilled to be adding this trusted brand to our offering.”
Tanglefoot was founded in 1885 as a manufacturer of fly paper. The company’s current products are designed to prevent insect and wildlife damage to plants and trees. It is best known for its adhesive barriers, including Tree Tanglefoot and Tangle-Trap. Tanglefoot also distributes Aeroxon indoor fly management products in the United States.
“Selling Tanglefoot was an important decision and one that we did not take lightly,” said president and owner, Joe Skendzel. “It was critical that the buyer fit well with our brand, our commitment to pesticide-free pest management, and our future ambitions,” he said. “We have every confidence that Contech is the right company to carry the Tanglefoot brand to even greater heights in the years to come.”
The company headquarters — including marketing, sales, engineering and administration--will remain in Victoria, BC. Operations and science will continue to reside in Vancouver, BC. The manufacturing and distribution for Tanglefoot products will remain — where it has been for more than 100 years — at the Tanglefoot headquarters in Grand Rapids, MI.
