RICHMOND, Va. – The Virginia Pest Management Association (VPMA) announced that board member RJ Mitchell has published a children’s book,  "The Bug Doctor’s Ant Adventures." This engaging and educational story introduces young readers to the fascinating world of ants, their habitat and practical control techniques.

Set in a backyard environment, "The Bug Doctor’s Ant Adventures" explores three different types of ants, offering children an insightful and fun way to learn about insect characteristics and their ecological roles. This book is the first in a planned series that will feature other common household pests, including bees, spiders and bed bugs.

Mitchell, a pest management professional with over 10 years of industry experience, created "The Bug Doctor" series to inspire curiosity and educate children about the world of insects.

“No one grows up saying they want to be a pest control technician, but my goal is to change that,” said Mitchell. “Through these books, I hope to spark an interest in entomology and pest control among the next generation, whether they choose to become pest management professionals or pursue a scientific career.”

In addition to sharing his expertise in pest control, Mitchell also offers advice to aspiring children’s book authors. “A good illustrator is key to bringing a story to life, and finding the right publisher is essential,” he said. “For those working on manuscripts, hiring an editor or even a ghostwriter can make a significant difference.”

"The Bug Doctor’s Ant Adventures" is available for purchase in paperback on Amazon and as a digital download on Kindle. Parents and young readers are encouraged to explore the book and provide feedback on how it inspires their curiosity about insects.

“This book is just the beginning,” Mitchell said. “I look forward to building on this foundation and hearing how it impacts young minds in the years to come.”

RJ has been invited to the International Book Fair in Frankfurt, Germany, also known as the Frankfurter Buchmesse this October.
