Baton Leads, Inc. — or just Baton, as in "pass the baton" — offers a modern, simplified way to manage and monetize consumer referrals between businesses.
"It's pretty simple," said Phil Kirkeiner, co-founder and CEO of Baton. "When you get a call from a customer that you can’t service, you can use Baton to refer them to another company and get paid."
Referrals happen for a variety of reasons. As more companies double-down on high-margin, recurring services like general residential pest control and mosquito reduction, Baton says many have begun to leverage them to refer wildlife, bee, bed bug, termite, lawn care, and other requests outside their core competency. And with the labor shortage in full swing, others increasingly refer away jobs beyond a defined service area to instead focus on building denser routes near existing clients.
Similarly, busy operators might not be able to schedule new customers quickly enough to get the deal; so to them, they’d rather make a little through referring than nothing at all. Moving customers may also want a referral for someone in their new area that their previous company doesn’t reach.
Baton reports it has more than 100 companies in the network and more signing up each day. “Clearly this is something people want, and we’ve made it very easy to get started,” said Baton Co-Founder and COO Cody Barbour, citing companies’ ability to choose their own pricing among other preferences. “Partners can feel confident, too, that their reputation and existing customers will be protected.”
