CLEVELAND - Increasingly, game cameras are being used in the pest control industry to help pest management professionals track rodent and wildlife pests’ travel patterns and behaviors.
According to results from a recent PCT reader poll, more than half of respondents (51 percent) are now using trail cameras, while 49 percent are not.
“If you aren't using cellular game cams to observe and solve complex rodent control situations, you're at a big disadvantage,” Dan Collins, president of Independent Pest Management Consulting, Evansville, Ind., recently shared on LinkedIn.
Josh Erdman is president of Erdye's Pest Control, Green Bay, Wis., a company that does a significant amount of rodent work. Erdman said his company uses trail cameras “to monitor and create content.”
Lloyd Pest Control, San Diego, has a few dozen trail cams in the field, and the company recently moved to a camera using a built-in cell connection. “This way we can look at video from our mobile phones rather than having to pull the memory card, said Efrain Velasco, technical director, Lloyd Pest Control. “We find them very helpful for rodent trapping and live-catch trapping.”
