U.S. Pest Protection TV Commercial, Jingle Win Pair of Awards

NASHVILLE, Tenn.  – A TV commercial that involves an animatronic eagle, a puppeteer who has worked on “Sesame Street” and a songwriter who had a song on “The Voice,” won two Telly Awards in an international competition that drew more than 13,000 entries from all 50 states and countries on five continents.

Created by Nashville-based BOHAN Advertising, the "Eagle Steve" TV spot introduced Eagle Steve, a super hero bald eagle. BOHAN enlisted director John Deeb of DEEB Studios in Orlando, veteran Orlando-based puppeteer John E. Kennedy and Nashville musician Mike Fiorentino, who wrote the Telly Award-winning jingle, to create the spot that attracted more than 100,000 YouTube views in just a matter of days earlier this year.

In one scene, Eagle Steve soars through the air and swoops down to “save” a woman standing on a kitchen chair to avoid a mouse. In another, he’s reading a newspaper with the headline “Local Hero Saves the Day” before he zooms off in response to his red phone that alerts him of another customer in need. 

“U.S. Pest Protection gave BOHAN the creative freedom to create a TV spot that was a huge departure from anything we’ve ever done, so this award recognizes success not only for our client but for us, too,” said Shari Day, president and CEO of BOHAN Advertising. “Eagle Steve and this TV spot were important elements in developing a new look and elevating the profile of a second-generation Nashville-based business with a 30-year history.” 

BOHAN won seven other bronze awards in the 37th annual Telly Awards competition. They were for clients in the healthcare, professional services and non-profit sectors. One was for the agency’s work to chronicle the final reunion for a group of World War II veterans.
